But then you have to gas it up and drive it across country!

It's 2,255 miles from Warner Robbins, GA to Chino Hills, CA

That's $500 in gas, have fun!

I had a 2006 Ranger, and it was a great truck but I only got it because at the time I got a new Ranger for less than a used Taco. Now that I can afford the Tacoma I want, there is no other truck I would consider. If I got a full size, I would only get an F-150, but I don't fell like driving a huge beast around town. The Frontier may have more power, but I don't like the styling and it's bland interior (Although the optional sunroof was appealing). Dodges and Chevys are never an option to me. So the Tacoma for me is perfect, big enough for my dog and our toys. I can pull anything I would need to with the Taco, and even fit a motorcycle in the back of a DCSB. Sounds like a great truck, and I know several people who want a truck, but don't want to drive a full size. I think the mid-size truck will have a future for a long time.

I think toyota should make a diesel tacoma or tundra then. I feel that would bring some competition for sure

I don't think Toyota would phase out the Tacoma as its really the only game in town now so now they have a market stranglehold. Ok, there is the Frontier too but c'mon...

The problem with Ford/Chevy is the pricing went up on the Ranger/Colorado to the point where if you spend a few grand more you can get a F-150/Sierra. This was by design to push people into more expensive trucks. When I was looking at trucks this winter the sticker price on a Colorado with 4x4 and double cab was the same or even slightly more than an equivalent Taco! That decision was a no brainier, however, if i spent a few G's more I could of gotten into a Sierra. So really the American manufacturers have sacrificed the light truck to push sales of their bigger trucks, while Toyota has eaten up that market share.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Same here in New England. If you go to Home Depot on the weekend you can find yourself scratching head which truck is yours. I think I had reach record one time there was 20+ 2gen Tacomas on the same Home Depot parking lot at the same time.
Literally when I pulled in I was WTF there is 2gen meet and didn't got invite ?:D
Hard to believe Toyota would ever cut Tacoma. Tacoma has almost no competition at this point so they will keep sellign them forever.
I am example why, I own the home need to make frequent runs to Home Depot/Lowes, garbage runs on Saturdays in the meantime truck hauls everything from firewood to crazy flea market purchases wife makes.

I have a taco and my wife has a CRV. No garage though.

I haven't run the numbers, but toyotas bread and butter vehicles are the Camry, Prius and Tacoma. All three best in class for sure. How many tacos do you have to choose from when you go to a dealer? Hardly any. Why? Because they can't keep them stocked. They would have to be ridiculously stupid the phase out the Tacoma.

So one thing I have noticed, at least out here in Cali, I have never seen Toyota offer deals on the Tacoma, or at least very little, I think this is in part of its reputation of being soo damn reliable/dependable and word of mouth kicks in, it kinda just sells itself.
With that said I dont see how Toyota would even consider it.
