I am tired of the crap, I had a 1992 and it was bullet proof, the 2004 I have now is “nicer” bigger and more refined, then the 2005 and later are totally different and have too many defects. They are not any faster they feel numb compared to the 1992. The 1992 did not even have power steering it did not need it and it handled so well at speed. It shifted so good and so tight and the clutch was awesome.

I want a 1992 engine and drive train and the gas mileage that came with its 112hp engine. For those that believe that is not enough HP, you never owned that engine, I did and it was actually more responsive, it was very peppy.

Toyota has an opportunity, they can resurrect that drive train and stick it into the same chassis it came in and skin it to look like the FJ. But they won’t because they are all about bigger and more and higher prices and bigger profits.

They can make a really bullet proof highly utilitarian vehicle that looks the part, but they won’t because the consumers want just what they asked for, bigger more refined, more power….do not get me wrong the new Tacoma look great but they are not what they were and they are ridding on the laurels of the bullet proof 200,000 mile totally reliable predecessor that is long gone. The base truck needs to come back, it need to come back as a compact and totally basic, vinyl floors and seat included.

Cool story. FWIW there are 1st and 2nd gens with 200k miles. As far as them sacrificing what you want for profits, they're a company. They're in business to make money. Find one company that isn't. I have no issue with them offering a truck like that, but its certainly not for everyone. A regular cab 112hp truck would be of no use to me.

I bought the 1992 in 1992 and it only got oil changes and two sets of brakes and one tire change in thirteen years. The only problem it had was that the frame rusted away, they could coat the frame and it would never rust.

I am also feed up with "passive restraints" can I sign a waiver and then get it without air bags? The seat belt warning was only a light that blinked and then shut off, not a fecking fire alarm, that makes you feel like a dog being trained.

^^^^^this. reminds me of riding in my uncles '72 volkswagon beetle as a kid (no, he didn't touch me) and his admiration of the capabilities of that small german-designed engine, only later to lament the "new" beetle and it's "fancy" interior  Seriously, give the 2nd gen taco a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised. Personally, i'll take my '11 DCLB over an early 70's-model truck, of any brand, any day:D

first of all, welcome. have you ever driven a second gen tacoma OP? sounds like you are depraving yourself. trucks have come along way since 1993, and the pros definately outweigh the cons.

Why are you here again? ._. Whats the point of ranting about how much you hate newer tacomas that arent your preference? >.> Looks like you want attention, well you've got it now. Just go out and keep driving your truck till the wheels fall off. Then go buy a 2nd or a 1st gen :D

There is no significant difference in performance between the 112hp engine and the 159hp with exception to the gas mileage. I know I've driven both, The 2004 has a 127hp and the differences are negligible, I bought a 2010 with 12k and took it back the second day, it had a defective clutch pedal, moved laterlaly and creaked and the previous owner I think damaged the syncromesh, the head mechanic said they all whine between 1st and 2nd, that one whined like a bitch. I should have backed off when I seen the led aftermarket lights on the 2010, a kid owned it.

I've seen old men with worse taste in car modification then this "kid" just putting led lights on a truck. Led lights are pretty good for light output but you probably hate them because they weren't made in 1992.
