Saw this taco on Piedmont and MacArthur in Oakland. It looked like he had two 9" off road lights up front, and then this rack in the bed. I tried to take a clean pic, but the light turned green and he took off.

I've seen this truck once in CV, and I saw it last Monday in Hayward. I've gotta say, I don't like the bed liner job... It could look good, but the guy left the inside of the hood scoop, door handles, entire tailgate, and I think rear bumper silver, with a bunch of Ron Paul stickers plastered on the tailgate.

MJon: Where you in Hayward on Monday too? Right before I saw this truck, I saw a Silver DCSB with front/rear bumpers and a supertop on 2nd st near C street.

Nice, I wish I was almost done! I usually park in another lot but my truck was so nice and cool when I got in it today, I think that might be my new spot haha :)

Crater Lake and Alpine Mine are worth a little detour (on the way from SLT to Kirkwood). Both can be done in 2wd (ones with clearance anyway after the fork in the road) this time of year because the creek is low and the streams aren't running down the road itself.

Last time I went (2009), there was a tight squeeze for my DC LB up the road to the mine due to a boulder in the road on a turn and my darn nerf bars. If you're not lifted, you have to be careful dropping into the creek (again, no idea if any water is still running across it, but that's where I dented my front skid on a submerged rock). Fork to the left goes up to the lake, fork to the right that crosses the creek goes up to the mine. Going up to the mine, there are several switchbacks (one in which you drive ahead to a turnaround area since there's no room to turn at the switchback itself). Great view from up at the mine.

Everything else I've found up there (including "4wd" roads) are basically just your normal forest roads.

If I can suggest a book and a trail. The book is called "Guide To Northern California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails". Always a good selection to pick from.

The trail I would suggest is a little more than a FS road but easily doable. The view from the top is what makes this trip worth it. The trail is called "Signal Peak". The start is around the Eagle Lakes Road off of 80-so not exactly South Lake.
