Only reason I went with 265 was for mpg. I just couldn't justify the increase in size for minimal gains. I think it gives you an extra inch clearance. Visually yes I like 285, however they cost more and weigh more so it just wasnt worth the extra $

I went down from 285's to 265's. I got tired of rubbing and I didn't feel like chopping cab mounts. The increase in mpg is nice too.

Yes, quite bit of plastic. I was okay on the cab mounts though... That's hit or miss, some people have to cut it and others don't it seems

i would go with 285's might loose a little power but it will look alot better, i have a 3 in lift with 265s and can not wait ti upgrade they look way to small on my truck and they are too small, i would go 285 and aftermarket rims for backspacing

285s on 3 inch lift. Billies @1.5 plus spacer
Trimmed a bit of plastic, no rubbing on the cab mounts. I still don't know any rubbing off-road since I haven't taken it out to play.

I've gotten a best of 19MPG (est)HWY in an 180 mile trip. This was with a light foot, AC on, 70 MPH, hills on the CA-60 and some traffic. I also ran 91 octane gas.
In the city with stop lights/signs and occasional border waits I don't even bother looking at it.

My feeling exactly. Especially since this is one of our families primary vehicles. With frequent highway and in-town usage, the increase height of one inch could not be justified, nor could the increasing gas expense.

The height difference between 265 and 285 is minimal. The width is what most notice, but it doesn't do much for my area of offroading - except add much additional weight. And the weight is substancial enough where it effects gas mileage and power...especially if not regearing.

I'm on trails that other trucks with 285's are on without any greater issues. I pick good lines while offroad and let the truck do the crawling.

With that said, I prematurely did do all the prep work for 285's or larger tires - cab chop, aftermarket tires, and a small amount of plastic trimmed. When we're ready for a larger tire size I'm thinking 35-37's! :D

i'm running 285/75/16's right now, but i think the next time around i will downsize back to 265/75/16 for the same reason many here have downsized. gas mileage, weight factor, and a bit loss of power. i have OME lift with dakkar in the rear. i have very little rub up front. the rear never rub.

So is there really that much of a power loss with 285s?
I thought it was extra traction since now I can powerbrake at 2000rpm and it just pulls me in the seat as if I were launching in 4HI. Before with 245s it would burnout to redline

Damn you need to do something about the ass end of that truck!

Are you running the same tire in 265 that you had in 285? If not, mpg increase isn't neccesarily because of the size. What kind of increase did you find?

So what do you like better since you have run both? Nice truck I really like the black wheels.

The more I think about it this might be a better option. I just wanted to stick with 16's. Looks good.

To bad there is no 275/75/16
