manual or automatic, which do you prefer and why?

LOL! It's hard to follow that but:

1) More fun to drive
2) Less expensive to purchase in a new vehicle than auto
3) Clutches are less expensive to repair than a modern auto transmission, and less likely to break down (I think)
4) More control over the vehicle in poor weather

 

buttttttttt what if i put on a monster sticker??? or cut off the muffler??? or put on a body lift and wear monster sttuff??? would that make people think i have a huge dong???

auto...because everyone knows the manuals are crap in these 2nd gens.

 

That's funny that you took the time to type out that entire super serious response to my highly tongue in cheek sarcastic comment. Look i drive in the mountains and in the snow all the time in the winter, and i have never ever had an instance when i wished i was in a different gear then what the tranny gave me or when i put it in 2 or L. The clutch is a pain in the ass hole when doing slow off roading unless you have REALLY low gears. And because of that im glad i have an auto.

No problems with my 5 speed whatsoever, the 6 speed is the one that gets the bad rep.

 

Sorry..I'm used to forums with a serious amount of bashing and sh%t talking,so I took that they way I'm used to. Yeah..I've had issues with autos as well...and I plan on keeping this truck for a LONG time..so I went with the stick. My apologies for taking you wrong !

 

I multi task too much in my truck for a manual transmission... That and sitting in tourist beach traffic in the Florida Panhandle would blow gorilla balls!

With the way the City I live in is set up, I'd hate to have a manual. There's a set of traffic lights every 30 fricken feet. And with the system in place that is "supposedly" coordinating them all, you hardly ever get clear sailing. I feel bad for anyone with a manual around here.

 

I hate my manual when i drive in stop and go traffic. Luckily noone lives in New Mexico. Very fun to drive in sand and everyone loves the feeling of a rear wheel drive locking into a corner with a manual even if it is in a truck

 

For actual "driving" I prefer manual, but since I live in the real world of stop and go traffic I prefer the automatic. I have a manual MR2 that I love to drive, but it is a pain when I hit bad traffic. The automatic makes it easier when your creeping forward 3 feet at a time.

 

For me, depends on vehicle's purpose. In a sports car, toy vehicle, or dedicated tow/plow truck...give me a manual. For a daily driver, occasional tower/off-roader, all purpose vehicle....I'll take the convenience of an auto!

For me it's a 4cyl AC with the 4 speed auto (I do wish the auto had at least 5 gears!)

 

I like my Tacoma in automatic, I bought a Miata because I like to drive stick in the right kind of car, if I had a manual in my Taco then I would be more inclined to do fast starts and that would just kill MPGs and a non-X-Runner Tacoma is not really made for speed. Where as my Miata is built for quick driving, and the MPGs dont suffer even when I am being childish.

 

My dad's Jetta is like that too. Short-throw 5 speed, I can drive it hard and it gets 35-40mpg still. With my truck, I try to stay below 3,000 on the tach and don't do too bad on gas.
