So my father in law was in the market for a mid sized truck and has always been a Chevy guy so he and his wife went and looked at and test drove the Chevy Colorado, and the GMC Canyon. They liked certain things on each truck so they didnt buy that day. They called my wife that night to tell them what had happened and I told her to tell them not to buy anything until they at least test drove a Tacoma. Sure enough later that next day my wife's mom called her and said your dad didnt make it 1 block before he said "I want it." I thought it was cool that he test drove those 3 trucks and is extremely biased towards Chevy and still picked the Tacoma.

They bought a 2012 SR5 short bed and this is my review of the 12 compared to my 07. The front end looks better in person. I love the new dash. I love the new steering wheel and technology upgrades. But I have to say the accelerator peddle is extremely "hard" to push compared to my 07. The SR5 seats are not very comfy at all compared to my TRD seats. Other than that its identical to my truck.

Here is a Pic: My truck is in right behind it.

Looks nice. As for the accelerator pedal, probably just needs to be broken in. I picked up my 2012 last week and thought it was hard to push as well.. but I drove 400 km this weekend and it already feels easier to push.

I drove a colorado when I was truck shopping and was not too impressed. I'm sure it was a great truck but just a little boring and didn't have the quality that my tacoma has. Even though they're both mass produced, the tacoma doesn't have the "thrown together on an assembly line" feel or look to it. Glad we made the right choice!

I owned a Crew cab Z71 with 3.5L engine. Its a tuff little inline 5. Its a doggy engine until you open it up, exhaust, intake etc.. I put the thing through hell and back. I rolled the truck at 75k and bought it back from the ins. company and got it running again. I pulled the the close-coupled cat exhaust manifold off and gutted the cat, put it back on and it ran even harder.. soo.. it 100k and traded to a taco 4.0 trd..

I used to sell Chevrolets and Cadillac for a few years and it's been about a year since I have finished, and always drove Colorado Crew Z71 demos and when I was searching for a new truck this spring all it took was one drive in the Taco.

Congrats on the new addition to the family. Has your father-in-law asked about doing anything to his truck, or questions about what you've done to yours?

I test drove a brand new Colorado when I was truck shopping. I didn't even make it one block before I told the salesman I was done and turned back to the lot. It felt and looked horrible!!! Couple weeks later I drove a Tacoma and could tell immediately that a Tacoma was the truck for me. I ALWAYS wanted a Tacoma just from seeing them around figured I would test drive others first just so I could compare......not even a comparison! I always laugh at Colorado, canyon, and frontier drivers. They just don't know what there missing

He has asked a couple but he is pretty cheap and scared to mod the truck at all cuz he thinks it de-values them pretty bad. (with is sometimes true) He really likes the projector headlights, and the LEDs inside though.

yea there really is no comparison between any mid sized truck and the Tacoma.

I hope Tacoma can maintain its lead over the upcoming new Global version of the Colorado! Looks like it's fairly impressive in most reviews I've seen so far, from Australia and what not.

Did you guys drive the 2012 V8 Colly? I just bought my Taco and the 2012 V8 4x4 was my orig choice. The Taco is bigger in my opinion and feels heftier. But the Colly was more nimble and powerful from the go but I'm not sure about the towing specs.

The Colorado is something of a bore to look at but they are easily modded and have so many capabilities to make them look better. I chose my Taco mainly for the legendary durability of the Tacoma and I've owned a Colorado so it was time for a change.

No comparison I had a real hard on for the 4x4 model Colorado was gonna buy one in 2004 drove at least 4 of them for a whole day. I went to the bank in Nov 2004 and took a long time for my loan approval. Then I seen it 2005 silver TRD 4x4 6 speed 4.0 decked out with aftermarket everything on it sitting at a dealer ship in Georgia. It had a 350hp supercharged 4.0 in it I hit the gas one time and that was it sold. I still have my 05 today 100000+ miles its still a beast. It will out tow, out run, totally dominate the Colorado inline 5 4x4 in every category. My mom still has an 04 Colorado. When they sit side by side I am glade I didn't make that mistake. Now my Baja sits beside my TRD in my driveway. Best trucks I've ever had. There always game to go anywhere with some attitude. No comparison tacoma dominates the Colorado.
