I was hoping this thread would be a little more substantial. I've done a fair amount of searching on features/specs that owners are looking for on this site.

Some obvious ones are/seem to be:

    Powertrain:
    Direct Injection
    Possibly a Turbo/turbodiesel variant
    6 speed transmissions

    Features:
    Heated Mirrors

I was hoping to get some serious insight as to how owners like some other ideas/features.

Is the current composite bed good enough? Would people rather see metal with a traditional spray in type liner?

Underbed storage options? (Kind of like :gasp: the Honda Ridgeline)

    Interior storage?

    Connectivity/Infotainment options?

    More parking sensors/cameras?

Seating position? I've sometimes felt older 4Runners the seat was too close to the floor...

Worth keeping the Baja type model?

    Worth keeping the X-Runner model?

    Any thoughts?

    whatever
    nope
only if regeared and the no. 6 gear is a true OD
    meh
it's better than any spray liner, and plenty durable.
why gasp? the feature on the Ridgeline is actually real nice.

Tacoma is probably the best in the business in this area, including full size trucks.
    current offering is fine
    nope
current stance is perfect for most midsize truck buyers

    sure, why not
yes. low production, but very cool

    a few...where is my cookie? :D

I'm an auto enthusiast that's looking into getting a Tacoma and hoping to spur some actual conversation about what owners want to build on/improve in a soon-to-come future model. I've owned anything from the S2000 to FJ Cruisers to MDX's to BMW 3 series and Jeep Grand Cherokees with lots in between. I enjoy looking at vehicles on the market and figuring out what could be improved/changed. I know this can seem like an endless exercise on forums, especially given the current life cycle of the Tacoma.

    Too few to list.
Hmmm... Toyota also have been very inquisitive sending me surveys (about 5-6 now) in regards to my tacoma and other cars that I drive.

In Bethlehem, GA perhaps...I parallel park several times a week, so do many that live/work in the city. To be fair though, the "automatic parking" feature is one that would probably better benefit those that don't have to parallel park very often.

Larry, interior storage on a Tacoma is FAR from the best offered. It's boarder-line pathetic in my opinion. The underseat storage on the double cabs is a joke and the way they set it up prevents you from being able to put something larger in the cab. I would have much rather seen something like the other full size trucks where the seat bottom folds up. The setup they have now is a PITA. If you want to fold the seat backs down, you can't have anything on the floor and can't have the front seats very far back or reclined. Ford actually has a nice setup where the floor in the rear is flat. Novel idea, no more having to build a platform.

Sorry, rant over, storage in the Tacoma is a sore subject for me...

Man Toyota needs to step up the Tacoma with better mpg. First the Eco-Boost F150 and now the 2013 RAM 1500.

    The Tacoma 4x2 V6 with 5 speed auto is rated 17/21mpg. The 2013 4x2 RAM 1500 is rated 17/25 mpg! That's ridiculous!

I don't want a full size truck...I didn't even look at them before I bought by '12 Tacoma. However a midsize truck should easily beat a full size truck for mpg!
