Well, I went into my local toyota dealer the other day and my parts are now on order. This should fix my sagging loaded rearend, the trk anyway.

I put the new rear (4 leaf) springs to the test last weekend, 3 dirt bikes, trailer, fuel, gearbags, coolers, tool boxes - no more bangin', bottoming or wallowing - and I still could put more weight in if I need to.
The truck has taken on a completely different personality in the handling department, even my wife has commented that it feels and drives better with the new rear leafs springs.
This single mod definitely enhances the ride characteristics, especially body roll and towing manners.
My opinion is this should be a recall item not a TSB because of safety if you are hauling any weight.
Chuck the 3 and go with the 4!

That will not work either, if the dealer did order, and disassembled the rear of your truck, they would soon find out nothing would fit. The 4X4's and PreRunner's have the axle under the springs, whereas the 5 lug models have the axle on top of the springs.

Okay. I'm kinda new at this. I have an 06' -22000 miles TRD 4.0 Off Road. I've read all the posts. I printed the TSB. I have a Rev Tek " lift and 33's. Will this affect whether I can get it done or not? Do I just tell them that my ride is bottoming out and they have to warranty it with 4 leafs instead of 3 and new shocks? Tell me in simple terms. Thanks

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
what did you do to lift the rear? if u used an add-a-leaf, then i'm pretty sure they wouldnt do it...and if they did, u'd only get 1.25" of lift out of the tsb vs. prolly 1.5" of lift out of the AAL

I know it wasn't a leaf. So, should it work for me to take in the TSB? Did anyone else do this who already had a lift?

I'm looking in the TSB #SU006-07 rear spring harsh ride. This TSB says it is for 2005-2006 Tacoma 4x4 and Prerunner vehicles. The picture on page #4 of the replacement leafs shows three leafs, two long on top and one short on bottom. The replacement parts show to be #48210-04570 RH leaf spring and #48220-04210 for the left. Is there a newer TSB out for the 08's? It seems pretty firm in the rear now but I have not hooked up the trailer or hauled a load yet as I only have 500+ miles on the truck. Thanks

There isn't one for the 08's yet, but it took them 3/4 of the way through 2007 to put one out for the 07's. Give it some time. They will have to fix it, but ony if you complain.

That being said - some people with 08's are able to go to their dealership and explain the issue and get it fixed anyway...

    it's worth a try. ;)

Before you drive all the way to Laredo, call first and let them know about it, if you have an '07 it is fine to do the same as you did in Corpus Chirsti, send the TSB in advance before you drive, if it is an '08 it will be dificult to get it, by now. Why? well since '08s are not yet included in this TSB (but these trucks still have this issue -I have one-) they are only replacing the rear springs with new ones, instead of putting a 4 leaf spring they are keeping the 3 leaf spring. As an advice call in advance and ask for Mr. Robles the Service Manager (956) 718-4200 and if he is not there ask for Alex Palomo... avoid Rudy he is a pain in the ass for any kind of service, waist of time talking to him, I own three Toyotas and I can confirm this.

Went in this morning and the service guy says are you getting a harsh ride? I said not yet because I haven't hauled anything yet. He says with a wink I've got to hear that the ride is harsh. So he hears me say so and he says the parts will be in 2 to 3 days. That easy!
They call back this afternoon and it's another service guy and he says my truck doesn't qualify only 2005-2006 are on the TSB. I didn't buy the truck at this the local dealer and maybe this is their way of saying they don't have to help me out on this matter. I figured they get refunded from Toyota for the work one way or another. I'm going back to the dealer now as he said he would give me a copy of the TSB saying the '08 aren't affected. I'll let you know.

He has the old TSB, now is confirmed that all '07 are included, and from Toyota Nation there is a guy (baja taco) that bought a '08 Tacoma in México and this one (finally) has the 4 rear leaf spring in it. This probably means that '08's has to wait for an update (range of VIN #'s) to include them all.

Hopefully they (Toyota) don't take the whole year to implement it.

Service manager just called back and said tacomas up to 08-28-07 are covered. Mine was built 01-08. He looked up the leaf springs that are in my truck and guess what. They are the #48210-04550 and #48220-04190. These are the ones that were replaced by the TSB #SU006-07 on '05 through 08-28-07. So I ask him to explain to me why they will replace them on these trucks but not on the '08's. He says that is what he is arguing with the head of warranty about. I guess I'll have to start calling the 1800# for the main office and start a e-mail campaign.

Or wait for an updated TSB where the '08 are included. Damn is more time and even this we do not know if this is going to happen.

So should I even bother asking for the TSB if I already have a lift? Do I just sit there and whine about a harsh ride?

Hey erock , if your already lifted getting the TSB will not be impossible , but it will be close . I,ve found that most dealers will find any reason not to do it. Still havent got mine done yet and i totally qualify. All the dealers see my clean bed and tell me i dont need it done. I will continue to push them though.

I've gone around and around and around with my dealer and the people manning the 1-800 number at Toyota. They all tell me the same thing, that the truck is "over loaded causing the sagging and floating suspension".

I counter by telling them they have faulsy advertised a greater load capcity than the Tacoma can saftly carry. For the record, the 4-cyl Access cab's load capicity is listed at 1340 pounds. Pre-Runners and up have reduced capacities due to the added weight of the 4x4 runner gear and 6-cyl engine.

I have just 300 pounds of "balast" over the rear axel for traction and over
certain bumps, the backs end floats, un weighting the front end causing it to under steer as the weights shifts up and down in the bed as the suspension sags and rebounds.

This is the SAME balast I had in the bed of my 1999 Mazda B2500 (rebadged Ranger) but unlike the Taco, the balast actually made the Mazda drive better in winter, not worse like the Taco.

The dealer and Toyota refuse to do anything about.
Truck is just 4.5 months old.

I have 3 options as I see it:
    1) sell it and go get a Ranger or Mazda again
    2) Take it back to Toyota and trade it in on something they WILL work on
    3) keep it and upgrade the suspension with after market components I shouldnt have to if Toyota built it right in the first place.

I'm VERY pissed off and Option 1) is looking the best right now.

Do you think it is the suspension causing the bounce or the tires?

    Deffinately suspension.

The Springs are too soft and the shocks are not strong enough to control the movement.

That stinks. I hope you get it figured out soon.

The way I see it you have two other options. You could go in there and play "Incredible Hulk" with their heads until they give in, OR you could squeeze 3 of them in there with you and go for a ride down the highway. Either one should get you what you want... ;)

...oh well, it was worth the try.

I actually suggested options 2, but THEY took it for a ride with 2 other techs and concluded it was over loaded.

I dunno what I'm gunna do. Cant afford to do anything at this point in time. I pray it stops snowing so I can remove the balast.
