are you talking about the top of the snorkel where the prefilter would attach? I'll try to get a measurement on mine. Pretty sure it's 3"

Dude, 35's would require a re-gear for sure. Almost like when the glass goes on, 35's go on then another $1k on a re-gear. That's quite a jump. At that point, I would consider an SAS a viable option :D

bah a little irish whicsky never hurt me:D but for real.....35s arnt as bad as you think they are..

Edit- Okay, it was a lot of whiskey. :anonymous:
The issue of tire size is more of an auto vs. manual thing. The manual 2.7L, stock 4.30s, and 35s did really well. In town or offroading and I was getting 20mpg highway. I don't think an auto can handle 35s without regear and I bet that's why most if not everything I found said a regear is in order.

Not to crush all your excitement about spending my money but I don't think I'll be going to 35's any time soon. I think it would be cool but timing isn't right with how I'm currently using the truck. So a regear isn't going to happen.

For that matter, yeah I know that 35's can make a truck a real dog especially with an auto trans. Same thing is true with my Land Cruiser, if you look on the Cruiser forums there a total "sky is falling" mentality if you don't regear with 35's. I've had 35's on my Cruiser for over a decade with stock gears. Is it slow? Only on steep canyon grades. Acceleration could be better but driving around is no big deal and the gas mileage has actually been pretty good. The wonderful thing about an automatic is that you essentially have crawler on the trail. You can go as slow as you want without smoking a clutch.

Maybe I'm just getting old and I'm not worried about going fast but I don't think i'd be that worried about regearing.

Adam's exactly right^ regearing is actually more valuable in a manual transmission truck... an auto transmission is a "cushion" on the drive train. and driving around daily isn't effected. unlike a clutch where driving u would have to slip it more.

To a point... But a re-gear is more helpful on the trail IMO. Lower gears are better for control. If I had stock gears, going downhill would be a nightmare, (it already is :p )

true but goin down hills even with gears ur still gonna be on ur brakes..... unlike a manual u let it ride....

thats where dual cases/crawl box really adds to the mix. i think the crawl box is such a cool idea especially for these new age chain drive t cases. perfect option for a daily driver that sees the trails often.
