    The rubicon looks pretty challenging... I'm not sure what there is for bypasses and stuff but I just watched some videos of a group of heeps that went through it. All of them were locked front and rear and on 35's and up with shit tons of travel and some spots have been pretty challenging for them. I forsee body damage being a given on that trail, again depending on what there is for bypasses.

    In video 2 they talked about coming up on a group of heeps that had planned out their trip for over a year and had planned to do it in 2 days. 4 days into the trail they were maybe halfway through it. It said they were boiling water and rationing food. The food ration was 3 gummy bears per person per day...:eek:

    That's what I Love about wheeling my Tacoma. Anyone can wheel a Jeep with little trouble but it takes a real offroader to do trails like that in a Tacoma.

    FYI, that Rubicon video is kinda funny how they over-dramtize the trail. But.....having run it several times, I didn't see anything in that video that were the "hard-lines". Everything in that video was pretty typical of the mainline path of the Rubicon. Those guys in the Jeeps seemed to be trying to take it pretty easy and in spite of the big lifts and big tires looked like a group that would have cried over a little body damage on their clean jeeps. The rollover? can't figure out why she would have had both lockers on in the first place right there but oh well.

    I will say this, the jeeps had better clearance and suspension travel that just about any IFS Tacoma so for anyone planning to run it, have good skid plates because you'll be dragging them. I think you can do the trail without body damage, but if you try any of the difficult stuff, all bets are off.

    The Little Sluice: you're retarded to try it in an IFS truck. It's a big boy obstacle for sure. Dual lockers and big tires and good driving are key.

    Old Sluice: Doable in a IFS Tacoma but you'll probably have some damage if you don't break.

    Big Sluice: You have to do it no matter what and it's a decent challenge.


    I love the Rubicon Trail. It is spectacular scenery, and a seriously challenging trail. From what I know of most people here on this board it would likely be the most challenging trail you've ever done. Good times.

So i still think you should stick to the trips more in our ability range and have fun wheeling now, then when you (we) graduate and get decent jobs then we can dump tons of money into the trucks and take them through shit like that.

    The first time I ran the Rubicon we had a '96 Tacoma in our group. He had OME 2.5" lift. 32x11.50's, sliders and a rear bumper. It was a TRD so he had a locker. He made it through with that pretty basic setup. Got a small dent, and broke his sway bar. Dragged all over the place and bent his sliders but made it through all the same.

    The Tacomas are plenty capable as they are just gonna be a bit more work.
