Years ago my friend's wife ran her MB 250SL through deep water the next day Mr came to the shop and took a plug out it was cold over night and there was ice on the spark plug. Long story short one connecting rod was sheared off as if it were cut with a saw. Water does not compress.

I just may be hydro-locked if it couldn't even turn the engine over. Can you say bent rods and valve stems...? Hope not but...

    White smoke and all?

Couldn't it just be a wet alternator? Similar thing happened to a friend and it was the alternator.

White smoke might be just steam from hitting the hot engine and manifold.:notsure:

    I wish you luck man.

I know two brothers who both have sunk a truck in a local creek. One of them bought an engine. The connecting rods were "S" shaped when he tore the old engine apart. The other brother pulled the plugs, cleaned out the starter, and blew the water out of the cylinders. Started right up, no damage to the engine. Changed all the fluids a few times, pulled the carpet and interior out of the truck to clean it, drove it a couple of weeks, and lost the throwout bearing and a wheel bearing. Swapped those out, ran it another year and the rear diff went out. He thinks it was related to the salt water, had to change the oil several times before it came out clear. Anyway, it's not over till it's over, you're not sunk yet.

Hope its just wet electric. An engine replacement would not be fun or inexpensive.

When you tried to start it after it quit, did the starter motor make a clunking sound like it was engaging the teeth but not going anywhere? Or was it completely unresponsive?

If waiting or repeatedly operating the starter motor until the engine turned, got it to turn over normally again, then you can be almost certain that it was hydrolocked, and trashed. Hydrolocking doesn't necessarily cause the engine to quit with a bang. Unless the intake pipe is just completely filled with water, each stroke will draw in progressively more water than the last stroke, raising the compression to the point where it is able to tip over the edge and stall the engine. If you're lucky, it is certainly possible to suck water into the engine and have it stall without actually damaging the engine, in this possibility, the water interrupts ignition (spark plug) without hydrolocking, so it will quit softly and will be able to run again once the water has cleared. I had this happen to my ATV once when crossing water that turned out to be deeper than the seat. The airbox didn't completely fill with water, it motored out of the water and stalled out gently on the incline after getting out of the water. After emptying the water out of the airbox and cranking it for several minutes, it fired up and ran like normal. That happened about 10 years ago, and it still runs like the day it came out of the factory.

just fyi, go slowly through water try not to blast through it like your in an action movie being chased by the police.

if the puddle was only 10" thats not even factory ground clearance yet you should have been fine so i know you must have hit it at speed. it could be other things ike wet electronics i personally had the truck gone over with dielectric grease and sealant to try and prevent a situation like this. there is a lot that goes into making your truck water resistant.

i hope its not hydrolocked man good luck and let us know what the dealer has to say.
