The Power of Peanut Butter

I spent time yesterday polishing up my truck with a coat of Nu Finish. I had never used it before but read some good things and thought I would try it out. I wasn't all that careful around the bumper, door handles and other plastic trim and found that it doesn't really come off those areas at all. It leaves a white residue that looks like total crap.

After doing some googling, the best answer I found was to use mineral spirits or paint thinner, which I didn't have any intention of trying on my truck. I asked around and happened to get some advice from a friend's old man who said with a straight face to use Peanut Butter.

As silly as this sounds, it WORKS LIKE A CHARM! Not only does it remove the white crap from the plastic, it cleans and shines plastic trim and makes it look almost new! I spend a good part of the morning with an almost empty jar of JIF and a toothbrush, polishing up the bumper step, bed trim, mad flaps, door handles and front cowl area. You don't even need that much. I am completely amazed.

Now, I may never use Nu Finish again, but that's a whole other issue. At least I won't worry about being perfect when I apply it.

Unfortunately I didn't take any before pics. I wish I did. Go out in the driveway with some PB and a rag and I guarantee results.

Haha. Good to know about this. I've got some white residue from a cleaner on my mud flaps I've needed to take care of.
