need help on what to do about dealer putting dent in my bed

sorry this is kind of long. ok so i took my truck which is only 6 months old to dealer other day to get my bed realigned. i washed truck right before i took it to check it for dents or scratches. well when i got the truck back i found two dents in front of the gas door. with that said i complained to manager and they had the dent guy try to remove them. well the dents are mostly out but the paint is like wavey. you can still tell where the dents used to be. they told me they could repaint the one side of the bed for me to try and fix it. so here is my worry. my truck is silver and i hear silver is one of the hardest colors to match because of the silver flake that is in the paint. i took it to a few body shop guys and they said that they would not have it repainted because silver is so hard to match and that the guys at toyota really dont know what there doing becuase they couldnt move a bed over without putting dents in it. they told me just try to get something else out of toyota like some accessory. what should i do?

 

Ditto. They are fully responsible for what happened on your truck, I say you have them fix it, and if they give you crap just move on up to management until you get results.

 

I would definitely make them fix it correctly. When my toyota dealer scratched up my interior panels and steering wheel I made them replace it all. it ended up costing them over 2 grand in parts but whatever they screwed up. It will be a fight but it is worth it.

 

It even harder to match the older pain that has been subjected to weather. If i wanted it to look good I'd rather them paint the whole thing

 

To me it kinda depends on now noticeable the dent is, and how important it is to you to have it fixed. If the dent is really going to be bugging you, fight with them until the fix it right. If you can live with the minor dent, and don't want to keep fighting with them, I say try to get some kind of accessory out of them.

My personal attitude about the truck, is that it's a truck, and I expect it to sustain some kind of body damage at some point throughout (not that I WANT it to happen). As long as the paint was fine, and wasn't too noticeable, I'd go for some kind of accessory.

 

IMHO having it painted is a bad idea... just seems like there's more potential for messing up a paint job... overspray, bad taping, reacting to sunlight differently than the factory paint... etc, etc. I'd probably see if they'd give you some kind of accessories, or even better, an extended warranty that includes paint defects should the paint on those fixed dents peel off in 2012!

Just make sure your complaint about the 'wavy' paint makes it into the service records in case it gets worse later on they can't deny blame.

 

yea the dents are mostly out. you really have to stand in front of or behind the truck to see them. you cant see them standing at the side. i am just worried if they try painting it they are just going to make problem worse or screw something up even more. i heard you really dont want to remove the factory paint.

 

make them give you a new truck

 

+1 pick your battles. It's your truck, you need to be satisfied. I've seen body shops do a great job matching paint. I think it's mostly the talent/ability of the shop. I spun my prelude down a hill bouncing off guard rails on ice. Took it to a local shop and I'll bet NO ONE would be able to tell it had bodywork done.

I wouldn't let the fear of the paint not matching hold you back.
