    LOCKER(S) BEFORE CRAWLBOX!!!!!!!:smack:

Think about it. All a crawlbox will do is make the easy obstacles easier and will not allow you to do any thing more challenging (with a few exceptions of course). Example: When you attempt an obstacle and you can't get over it or through it or whatever, what do you do to make it? Pre-run it (aka more speed). A crawlbox will do the opposite of that...

I can't find the pic I was looking for of hell's... but this one should do:
    IMG_3348_f07b0e77230f5a67c9694694e491f4f72ae74b23.jpg

So in Adam's case when he couldn't get up this he would back up and try a slightly different line. After about 3 tries he pretty much just gunned it up over it and made it up. Mean while the locked guys just walked right up it like it was a smooth paved road. Had Adam had a crawlbox it wouldn't have helped him here.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get a crawlbox, but if the choice is between a locker and a crawlbox, get the damn locker!! You'll get way more out of it up front!:D

Edit: Haha, see these guys all agree!:D

Skids are up on my list for sure. Gotta fab up some..

and yes while a crawl box slows you down a lot..it still helps sigificantly with getting power thats under control down to the wheels. Yes it won't help if 2 wheels lift..but if 3 are down..its gonna help a lot.

and more then that..its just cheap for me haha if i go locker..ill regear..if i regear..gotta lock the front..so like 3000+ for locker. 2000ish for crawl box.

oh and i still have to get full front LT..5k there..piss..i need money..

I know how you feel about the money thing. haha.

Plus it is almost $2K for just the crawlbox, then you have to resize or get new drivelines. Could end up close enough to 3K that you should just get the lockers cuz again, they will net you more use!!

PS: Once one tires comes up on an open/open rig, you basically lose the advantage of 4wd and are temporarily pre-running, therefore the diff with both wheels still on the ground will need good traction on both of those wheels or you will just spin. This may not be too much of an issue in Moab since it is mostly rock, but elsewhere it could be a huge issue.

 You know me well, sir!!! :D
You mean if all 4 are down..... :p if only 3 were down you we be only powering either the front end or rear end (depending which has both tires on the ground) and a locker would benefit you a lot more...

Dude, if you do all that crap, you will have pretty much have the best IFS crawling Tacomas out there. I've seen quite a few Taco's with full armor/2 lockers/crawl box/5.29 gears/35" or 36" tires/bobbed bed or dovetail and they are very formidable for IFS crawlers, but I don't think I've seen someone do all that and LT the front end for the incredible travel on a 1st gen! I've seen a couple of 2nd gens go that far on IFS but no 1st gens.....

    and yeah.... $_$
    Agreed.

hey its only money right? haha

and i know..we shall see how things work out first before i cross the bridge of crawl box or lockers. Will really depend on my tires cause if i regear..im going to 35s

but yea Silas..im pretty much going for the most bad ass IFS expo/trail rig you ever laid eyes on :D

Yes that pic that Silas posted is the Little Sluice. It is Gnarly!! Out of all the trails I've ever been on the Little Sluice is hands down the toughest obstacle i've ever driven. Helldorado was pretty nuts too, but the Little Sluice is no joke.

Hey if Silas wants to try it, I'm all for it. I'll bring plenty of cash to support my wager on his success. :) Not saying it can't be done, but having driven that obstacle a couple of times, you need way more flex than IFS can give you, dual lockers. A single locker probably won't get you 10' into it. And you need beefier axles than the Toyota IFS for sure. I just don't believe that a Toyota IFS could survive....period.

On top of that....the Little Sluice was the one time that I felt like my 37's weren't enough tire. They got me through it but it was seriously the only time I felt like I culd have used a little more tire.

Here's a few pics to give a little better idea of the size of the rocks. The jeep looks to have 39" tires or bigger here and they look too small in some spots. Those rocks ar BIG.

This pic is about 10' into the obstacle. The trip I described earlier that broke 3 trucks, all broke right here before they even got to the hard parts and they were built trucks.
