I asked for one when I bought my truck because I had read a thread on here about making duplicate keys. Some folks said they received two chipped keys and a valet key.

My dealer told me they would look into it and about a week after I took the truck home I received an email saying Toyota stopped supplying valet keys two months ago.

I'm trying to figure out if this is the truth. What do you think?

I didn't get one either and I asked about it. Dealer told me the same thing Toyota doesn't do that anymore.

Same here, bought mine a few weeks ago, dealer said Toyota doesn't supply 'em anymore. Never really used the valet key when I had it for my 2010 though, still it was nice to have...

I bought mine about 2.5 months ago and I got two keys with a chip. I'm glad I did because they're expensive

Well, even a valet key would have to chipped, or the valet wouldn't be able to drive it! In most cases the valet key will operate the vehicle, but won't open locked storage areas, such as glovebox, console, trunk, etc. Of course, the Tacoma doesn't have any locked storage areas, so the idea of a valet key just seemed silly to me anyway.

To answer your question though, I bought my 2012 back in May and got 2 keys and 2 key-less entry fobs, but no valet key.

Of course, I'm about 95% positive I didn't get a valet with my previous 2005 Tacoma either, although I know there are others who were at that time.

While I can definitely agree with that statement, there are other possible uses for a valet key!

For example, my dad used to always toss me the valet key when I needed to borrow his car back when I was in high school.

what good is a valet key for a Tacoma anyway?

I thought a valet key opend the doors and worked the ignition, just not the trunk.

the valet is good to have because it is chipped but it can only be used a few times or the ignition won't start. once it turns over with a regular chipped key the valet can be used again. i would like to have one because it's basically another key. sounds like Toyota does not supply them anymore. Thanks to all who replied.

Two keys with a chip. Spent 10 bucks on a valet key. No big deal.

Useless key IMO. Of course my 2012 SR5 Prerunner doesn't have chipped keys either.

    I hate chipped keys!
