I got my truck off the lot so I didn’t have any input in what is in it. But when it comes to trucks I use the K.I.S.S. RULE. A truck is for work if you want amenities then go with a car. IMHO

These posts make me laugh.....everyone has their opinion. Its a no win situation to me. Some are happy with a basic truck and some are happy w/a fully loaded truck, and some just want more, more, and more. Its just life. It took me a long time to be grateful for what I've got. ..Just my 2 cents...............So be happy with what you have got and press on in these trying times! :)

Choice is great. Unfortunately, Toyota has a way of "packaging" their options. There are very few ala cart options to be had. Now, they could do a Lexus version with all options available ... But I understand. Different strokes. That's it. THAT really is America.

Now go drive your Japanese truck and be happy like the rest of us. :stirthepot:

My Std cab is about as basic as you get... No power windows, no remote entry, no power door locks, no power mirrors, no cruise control, no sunroof, no steering wheel controls, no leather.

However on the other side I do have AC and an automatic. (I'll probably have to kill myself admitting that it is an automatic, but my wife is physically challenged and can't drive a standard). The down side is that the AC and Automatic have reduced the hauling ability almost 300 lbs. The truck is only rated at 1350 to begin with.

Personally, I'd be happier with cruise and power mirrors, but even without them I still love my Tacoma. I think power mirrors should almost be considered a safety concern. There is no way my wife could reach the right side mirror by herself.

Pster, I couldn't agree more. Although I have a 2009 Tacoma quad cab, I am astounded at the lack of available factory options. I've owned 7 or 8 Ford vehicles and 3 or 4 Toyotas over the last 32 years and have to say that my wife's 2008 Ford Edge and my 2008 F250 are every bit as much quality as my Tacoma but with better options. Toyota has some catching up to do in the creature comfort department. Heck, their stereo system cannot compare to my F250 system with speakers everywhere you look and a subwoofer that will rattle the windows right out of the truck and it's a stock stereo. In my F250, the super comfortable Leather heated captain chairs are a MUST when I'm plowing snow for 14-16 hours straight. The toyota seats don't even register on the comfort gauge compared to the Ford seats. Other things like power seats, power pedals, better interior lighting, more compartments to put things, heated mirrors, flat area on top of the dashboard for all sorts of small items, etc. all add up when one is really using the truck as a truck like when I'm plowing from 4 or 5 pm until noontime the next day. Don't get me wrong, I like my Toyota but if you want to talk about a truck made for those who "really" work in their truck, then my F250 has it all over the Toyota. Nevertheless, my Tacoma serves its purpose as a commuter truck, driveway plowing for a 6 hour route, towing a utility trailer with equipment, and decent gas mileage. It looks real nice too.

20 will do :)! I do like the idea of factory cargo lamps tho. No need for heated( cooled) seats, buy a lexus.

I want the luxury items in a truck the size of the Tacoma. Would ya'll stop defending Toyota on this? They are FORCING the CUSTOMER to TAKE what THEY want to offer them....it's supposed to be the other way around. I don't worship Toyota.

I said I was lusting after the F-150. What I am looking forward to is the day Ford has enough capital to totally redo the Ranger and make it into a mini-150. That day will spell disaster for the Tacoma, but more likely Toyota will be forced to offer options as I have been espousing.

I highly doubt that. I won't care if the Ranger had all that other stuff...I would never buy one and I am sure there will be many that agree.

The F-150 is brand new for 09 so it will have all that cool stuff and it's a full size truck. I don't think they will make the Ranger the same way cause they have the F-150. Same with Toyota, they have the tundra to go up too for the luxury options.

    I had a deposit on a '09 Tundra that listed for $51K.
I was ready to sign the papers for $41K with some dealer installed accessories but at the last minute felt the truck was just too big for my needs.
I almost bought the Tundra mainly for it's luxury interior options and ride quality.Ok,the 381HP was nice too.
Maybe add the TRD Supercharger and get 504 HP and 550 lb torque.
Chevy,Dodge and Ford have plenty of luxury options in their line of pickups.
The Tacoma should offer a loaded luxury optioned model too.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
go ahead and buy those "luxury" fords and when they've crapped out in a few years and these "basic" tacomas are still driving over top of them, we'll see if u'd rather have added aftermatket options yourself.

that's what I was thinking. He was just so matter of fact about it I didn't want to argue. And the guy from dodge, I mean that just sealed the deal.
