Plus I have 4.10's now and it is struggling going up hills with 31's. Is that normal?
If not, then bill I need to come and find out why the CEL is on

 

You'll need a master install kit, too. Actually two of them. If you go with 5.29, keep in mind that my truck ran high rpm at 70mph with 35" tires and only 4.88 gears. You won't be able to drive it very fast or you'll be racing the motor. I wish i had never changed the gears, I was happier with stock.


You have a little 4 banger. You are going to experience some power loss at speed when going up hills. It's not that annoying, get a running start. If you're anything like me, you'll regret spending all that money on replacing them.

With 5.29's, you could run 35" or bigger easily. Before you do it though, make sure you plan to make it an off-road only rig.

 

Just go 4.88s mat. That's what I plan on doing

 

I have 4:88s with 35s and its just about perfect. Its a 5 speed and a 3.4 and it makes it up most hills pretty easily, i do have trouble with some though. If i had a 2.7 then i would defenintly want 5.29s with 35s.

I wish everyone could have ridden in his truck last meet. That thing was struggling pretty damn bad. I think there is more to it than just gearing. I thought my jeep w/ 33x12.5's and 3.55's was bad uphill, but his was at least twice as bad as mine. Not to mention toyota's have a steeper geared 2-lo that me.

Bill, do you think he might have some torque converter issues? The rpms seemed pretty high for just that first hill.

 

He drives it to work and says it is running a hellcof a lot better now

 

decided to try out my new wax on the truck this past weekend



unfortunately i forgot to take pictures until after i had already mowed and blown dust all over it and it decided to rain, so not as pretty as it was but still nowhere near as dirty.

It MAY be a converter issue, but I haven't taken the time to drive it or check the system.
