yeah i have the DCSB. yeah been wanting one for about a year and was going to do ammo can mod. but i’m having a hard time finding the bolts and stuff i want to use. and am starting to think i will want more room. i was thinking that if it was wide enough for the bed bolts on the front end of bed. seeing if i could find some longer bolts that will bolt all the way thru box, the bed and into the frame. i don’t see that coming out very easy with out getting into the box.

i made a thread. with little more info.

i've been following this thread for a while now. i think i list (to the best of my memory) everything i have added to my truck.

    Inside the cab:

my daily carry, either Taurus PT111 or Glock 23 (just purchased)
I always have my knife on my side
I have a hoody, blanket, my first aid kit i put together,my CB, i have 3 bottles of water, a roll of tp, a couple flash lights, and my SAS survival handbook.

in the bed under my bestop i have 2 ammo cans for storage in addition to the side pockets. i have some recovery material, a small air compressor, chain, a lot of paracord, a basic tool kit, wd 40, fire starting material, gloves, a hatchet, a shovel, and my hi lift jack (i still need to finish getting all of my hi lift stuff together).

i think thats it? thats all i can think of off the top of my head. i have the beginnings of my B.O.B. so i have that ready just in case. umm, i'm sure i'm forgetting some other stuff i have around the house.

i'll keep reading this thread for more ideas!

This is a wonderful thread. I just got done doing my tobacco tin pocket survival kit...now I need to outfit my truck!

Currently I have a folding shovel under the seat, machete, flashlights, industrial glowsticks, flint, first aid kit, change of clothes, spare shoes, 2 gallon sealed gas can, fire axe, backpack (empty), paracord, 2 bottles of Juice Plus, common tools, gloves, mini air compressor, military issue water can full of water with cup/cooking holder, hidden cash, and a couple decks of cards.

...so I guess I got a few things, but I need MORE

about leaving these in your car, what do you do about the heat issue? Here in Memphis it can get upwards of 120 in the car, much hotter I'm sure for others.

hey guys. i saw a pic on Facebook about a glow bottle. and it said.. use mtn dew, use 1/4 the bottle, tiny bit of backing soda and 3 cups of peroxide.. don’t know if it works. but sounds cool. and could be used and you have everything on hand, and need a glow bottle.

Good for you for tryin it man. I think it looks really nice! Better than I could do for sure. I just took the easy route and bought a Becker.

I've buffed off the finish and added a lanyard in an attempt to de-beautify it to the point where I could beat up on it.

Do any of you guys have the following in your gear?

Quik-clot or similar off brand product
A tourniquet that can be self applied
    Vehicle First Aid kit

I'm looking for these items to keep in my personal car and transfer it back and forth to my work car. Just wondering if anyone has recommendations on some of these for a low price? The First Aid kits are running about $20-30 in most cases, but tourniquets seem a little expensive. Most of them I have found are around $30 for a strap you wrap around a limb. And I'm mainly looking for opinions on Quick-clot. Supposedly the original would cause tissue damage, but there is a newer version out that's better.

Quick-Clot has changed a lot. It used to be granular and we were taught to dump it in a wound, which caused a lot of problems including heat generation that could cause tissue damage. The new stuff uses a different mineral that's infused into a gauze dressing and when the casualty reaches the hospital it's removed just like any regular dressing. Supposedly it has no side effects, although it is still only meant to treat severe bleeding where a tourniquet can't be applied (head, torso, etc).

I usually put anything that you dont want warm or hot in a small backpack or shaulder bag. If I am out and about and will be out of my truck for any extended period of time I just carry the bag or backpack with me.

Also,....No one has mentioned one of the most important survival items your truck could have.....water microfilter similar to this one...

    http://www.amazon.com/Katadyn-8013618-Pocket-Water-Microfilter/dp/B0007U00YE

I got mine from REI for 70 bucks....you dont need the super expensive kind they all work the same. Clean water is your friend. : )

so my girlfriend asked me last night why i keep all of this stuff in my truck, and why i have bags packed and ready to go etc.. etc.. i explained that i'm not a nut case(IMO anyways...) and i do this in case something happens. she asked me like what? i said, well we don't really need to worry about hurricanes here but some kind of natural disaster or something like that. maybe an alien attack or whatever....lol she said she sees my point, but after we were discussing it last night i realized there is still a huge gap in my emergency plan.

I work about 12 miles from my house, she works downtown, a good 35 miles from our house. lets say some crazy natural disaster happens. there is no cell service, maybe some of the bridges in and out of the city are not passable... i still don't have a good plan as far as a place where we can meet up, get to the house to get the rest of our items and then bug out from there if necessary. i'm confident i can get back to the house, but i need to come up with a meeting place for us both to meet.

She drives a cobalt, if there is debris etc... all over the place the cobalt is not known for its off road capabilities. i know its a stretch that something that bad would happen, but i like to be prepared for the worst so i can be covered as much as possible in any situation.

any ideas on how to go about planning this next part to my emergency/bug out/whatever part of my plan?
