I wish it was, but I got news from dad that my old boy passed away early this morning in his sleep :'(
I was woken up suddenly at 3:45 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, I think that was the sign saying that he had passed on to the meadows of the Rainbow Bridge. I am deeply saddened, but happy to know that Jack is in a better, pain-free place and will always be watching over me.

This is the last good pic I took of him earlier this summer, he looks real gruff but was a happy-go-lucky dog even in his old age, may he RIP.

Thanks you guys, I am the same, I love my dogs more than most people as well. They've never lied or stabbed me in the back and never would, always there no matter what.

Oh I'm sorry to hear news of his passing after hearing the good news that he was eating well and laying in the sun. But one thing for sure. You got his love for 18 years! Not too many dogs last that long. That means he was happy to be a part of your lives. And you a part of his.

Seems to me that you were both very lucky to be a part of each other.

Sorry to hear that man, he looked like a beautiful dog, the fact that he lived 18 years tells you he was well taken care of!

Man, this thread almost had me in tears. I don't mean to thread jack but now I feel like sharing.

This was our family dog from 1995 to about 2009. We picked him up stray from the pound, and they guessed him about two years old. We had to put him down because he started getting seizures everyday. Sadly, I wasn't there for his last moments either. In that sense I feel your pain. RIP.

Thanks again everyone, it really means a lot. Today was really tough and time stood still, seems like morning was weeks ago. But I am doing my best to stay positive about everything.
Tomorrow someplace in the world, a little boy and his parents are going to bring home an adopted pup and a new life journey will begin for the boy and that dog just like it did with Jack and I all those years ago. Bittersweet, but it makes me feel good to think like that. :)

18 years is a great long life for any pup. You had a good one. And he got to "move on" in his sleep ... that's not a bad way to go for any of us. But the story you tell of waking up with a start at 3:45am knowing something had occured ... I cannot tell you how often I have heard such stories from people ... a vivid dream, a waking up with a gasp, a sudden thought of their loved one they couldn't shake, some kind of vision or knowledge or unexplained feeling of overwhelming connection ... only to learn such events occured simultaneously with that loved one's passing, sometimes across town, sometimes across the planet. You should take comfort in that. It's an experience of connection deeper than anything we can imagine. Jack's never apart from you.

Jon, sorry for your loss. seriously, the death of one's dog can be very traumatic. i couldn't even speak to the staff at the animal hospital when my last dog had to be put down, words simply would not come. now he resides in a frame in our family room. and our present dog, well, we always make sure to include him in family plans, even asking if he can come along to parties, get-togethers and such :) Alas, Sounds like Jack led a wonderful life though, and you were a terrific owner:thumbsup:
