Zach I've thought about getting a tool box too but one that sits in the bed but doesn't sit on the bed side rails. Its more of just a rectangle box and the top sits below the rails so you could have a tonneau cover. Bolt it down to the bed from the inside of it and I wanted to get a train horn and put the compressor and air tank into the tool box.

I've heard those best tops don't hold up too well. I don't think they're worth the money.

yeah. thats kinda the style i have thought about. also i thought that if it covers the bed bolts. try and find a longer bolt that will go where the bed bolts are. and just bolt it right to the frame so it can’t go any where. someone els had said that if i had nuts on the under side of bed, someone with time could un do it from under the truck. so if i did it like that. i would like to just replace the bed bolts with longer bolts, that go thru the box the bed and into the frame.

from what i have read. the problems are mostly with the 6’ beds for some reason, i have the 5’ and have not really read any problems with it.

I would just drill down thru the bed and use big bolts with a wide washer and nut. Put everything together with the actual bolt going down from the top side and the nut and washer go on from the bottom. Once everything's bolted down, mark where the washer and nut are, take it back off, grind down to bare metal under where the washer would contact the underside. Put it all back together again including the bolt from top. Have someone with a welder weld the washer to the underside, then weld the nut to the washer. Spray undercoat over the welds and any remaining bare metal to protect from rust. Then you should be able to take the top bolt out when you want to remove the toolbox.

See that's the difference in me and other people like u is I dont own a house to spend money on, I rent one. So all the ” house” money u spend is ”truck” money I spend!

And Zach u can do a 3” lift for $200 if u want, its called top plate spacer and an aal in back! But ” real” suspension aint cheap, especially if u buy new! Fox ext. rr coilovers - $1300, Camburg 1.25” ucas - $700, King rear ext. rr shocks - $1000, Allpro std. leafs and flip plate kit - $450, Ext. Brake lines front and rear - $80. Thats $3530. And I havent bought lcas - $1600, shock hoops with 12” shocks - $1300, fox hydro bumps and cans - $400, spindle gussets - $60, cam tab gussets - $80, coil bucket gussets - $60, or limit staps - $200 yet, which are all on my list! Thats $3700 more and thats not including shipping on anything or install labor for anything!!!! Im gonna make a list with prices when I get home and see how much ive actually spent! Lol

I think 6" is to big IMO... I'm 2WD though so I can do Maxtrac spindles with an allpro rear leaf back and have a 4" lift for under $1,000. Granted I'll prolly end up putting Bilstein's all the way around which will run me another few hundred... But If I can get about 4.5-5" of lift for less than $1,500, I'll come out smelling like roses!

Edit: To answer your question though, it seems like Procomp is pretty popular, but everyone craps on it for some reason... I know Fabtech is popular too. Have you read any of the 3" vs 6" lift threads? Those guys are going to be a lot more informative than I can be...

People dog on it cause it's a drop bracket lift. And I have a little, not sure about cutting the 4x4 crossmember though....but I don't know, haven't made up my mind yet.

That's because db lifts are fuckin retarded! For looks only and they don't even look good! Most people think that just because they lifted 6 inches means they can go over bigger obstacles, ignorant fucks! Don't buy a kit, piece one together like Taylor said! U can get much much better parts for the same price if not cheaper!! Imo lift ” kits” are products for people who know no better

what do you plain on doing with truck? tell the truth. i’d stay with 3” you don’t really gain anything from a 6”. except bigger tires. but your ground clearance does not really get better. i was thinking about a 6” prob fabtech. but i want a roof rack. and i think my center of gravity will be to high, and a high chance of flipping on the trail. also you pretty HAVE TO regear really pretty soon after with 6” and 35”s. can get by with stock gears on 33”s all tho it would be good to regear. also with 6” and 35”s expect around 13 or 14MPG till you regear. also you get 3” blocks for the rear. witch can lead to axel wrap, vibes from the rear on take off. also you need extended brake lines. all in all. it’s A LOT more $$$ to do a 6"

U actually lose ground clearence in the front because of the drop bracket itself! Yes ur center of gravity is higher, u will be fine with 33s and stock gears, might want to get 4.56s with 35s. And not only will u ger blocks in the back but u will also get top plate spacers in the front

I'm perfectly happy with my cheap lift setup...I fit some 33in tires fine and my ride quality is almost factory and after a couple months it feels just like a factory ride and I don't have that buyers remorse of spending thousands of dollars on a lift kit I wouldn't ever use to its potential. It really comes down to how your gonna use your truck. If I was hardcore trail rider or if I jumped sand dunes I'd spend more on a lift.

When I was younger I was spending thousands on my muscle cars and motorcycles, now days I'm more conservative with dropping money into a vehicle. So I understand why some of you younger guys still have that itch to drop a lot money into your ride. Do it now, cause the older you get, you learn something called " practicality" or you have a house, a wife who insists on driving something nicer than you have, and probably a couple kids.

I ran a 3" body lift and 35" BFG's on an F150 for several years and was completely happy with it. I spent about $300 for the kit, including gap guards, and I kept the stock rims. I got a ton of compliments from people in parking lots who said the lift looked great and appeared factory unlike most suspension lifts. To each his own, but I agree with joebob.
Unless you're a hardcore offroader or entering your truck into shows, spending thousands of dollars on a lift to roam the mall and cut some donuts in a bumpy field isn't practical. I have money saved up and my truck is paid off, but I have zero interest in spending thousands of dollars on this truck.

uh oh! This could easily turn into a bitch fest! lol I agree with everything u said. Most people are perfectly happy with their stock vehicle and/or slight mods to it but i could never own a stock vehicle! Way to "normal" for me! haha i like being different (notice the green rims).

I like that u said it comes down to how u use ur truck which imo is where "practicality" comes into play. Obviously if u just mall crawl then it is impractical for u to have $10,000 suspension. If u offroad, and how often doesnt really matter, then i say spend all the money u want on suspension and u will never regret it when u get out on some trails! Ill take u for a ride Matt just for fun if u wanna go sometime!

And the whole getting older thing, depends on your situation in life AND what u decide u wanna spend ur money on. Its funny cause people at my work always ask me how much money i got in my truck and why i always got somethin new for it and how do i spend that much money on it! I have the same response every time: " Its a hobby!" Some people like to spend their play money on fixing up there house, like in your case Matt. Some people like to spend it on buying toys for their kids. Some people like to spend it on taking their wifes out to dinner every night. All of these things are perfectly fine with me because thats what they CHOOSE to do with their play money. I LOVE to work on my truck and fix up my truck. Its my hobby and its what i CHOOSE to spend my play money on.

I have no house nor particularly care to spend money on one at this point in my life. I have no wife or gf so i cant spend money on them. I have no children, nor will i anytime soon so i dont have them to spend money on. All im saying is, part of the "growing up" thing is taking care of the important things in your life including the way u spend money and once thats done, take ur play money HAVE SOME DAMN FUN!!!!!!!

Lifes waaaaaaaaaay too short for me to not enjoy what i love to do at this moment in time . . . . and right now its :rasta: haha
