I have a 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport and Im looking to do tires/wheels/ Lift for christmas. What I had in mind was the Toytech Front Adjustable coil overs at 2.5 and a 1.5 AAL in the rear, with Mickey Thompson 17x9 Classic II's. Given this setup would Nitto Trail Grapplers in 285/70 R17 Rub? According to Nitto it's a 33.15in tire. If my current lift set up wont work what would be required to make it work? I'm trying to avoid chopping the cab mounts.

What's the backspacing of the wheels?

You're looking at the possibility of a cab mount chop no matter what the specs are though.definately some trimming too.

I might go with the 265/70R17 Trail Grapplers then. According to the sticky those will fit a stock truck. I'm having trouble finding nice 17x8 Rims though. The tire says approved rim sizes are 7.0-8.5 and most 17in Rims seem to be 17x9. Fuhhhhhhh.

Edit: I know what needs to be done, I need to man up and just be ready to start chopping.

its not that bad, and you may not even need the cab mount chop unless your going offroad. also no one will even notice it unless they stare into your wheel well and know what they are looking for.

If you plan to off-road, you will have to do the CMC. Jlee sells some precut plates that's super easy to weld up. If it's just a daily driver, the rubbing won't be so bad, but you're still going to need to cut up some plastic in the wheel well.

Thanks a million for all the help guys. So to kind of solidify this for me, essentially a 265 tire will fit a stock suspension with out rubbing but if I jump to a 285 I'm going to have to trim?

Tires I'm currently looking at are:

    Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ
    General Grabber AT2
    General Grabber

The grabbers are my favorite so far but are only available in a 285. I'm kinda jumping around between a 16in wheel and a 17. I was lookin at the MT classic II originally but I just found the Level 8 guardians and think i may have a winner.

Big thanks to those who helped out. I've decided on Level 8 Guardians in black and am going to wrap them with Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's in 265/70/17. I'm also going to install the Toytech/Bilstein height adjustable coil overs set at 1in to level the truck a little. I think the black rims will look really good with the magnetic grey.

Down the road I'd like to get an ARB air locker, Famous Fabrication front bumper and sliders as well as do a satoshi grill. I really like the look of the grills with "TOYOTA" spelled out.

What back space are your Guardians? Can you post a pic after your install? Thanks.
