i hate jeeps

on a yota (well....pickups with a 4 cyl) just seam alot easyer to work on

i imagine a 4 popper would be easier... 2 less cylinders and all that would have gone with them, must save a lot of space under the hood!

 

Haven't seen any jeep manuals online...I have a 92 (I think) Wrangler manual with 4.0L. I know of some parts catalogs online

a real PITA is a Volkswagon. I will never own one again, that way i'm positive i won't have to work on one.

 

My GF has an 01 Grand Cherokee and I'm surprised by it. Handles the snow and ice better than my Taco does. 4x4 system in it is quite capable. It's the Quadra Track II not the Quadra Drive unfortunately, but it's still a damn tank.
And full time 4x4 is pretty frigging nice for city driving with dozy roads.

 

the only reason they make mini vans is so that toyota owners have somthing to rip appart with their trucks

 

A head gasket job on the 4.0 I6 is cake. What did you expect? Not to take off the head?

 

ummm.....well i kinda sorta expeted to take the head off but i work on mostely yotas and this is the first jeep ive worked on and i dont have a manual
and this the most i have ever tore into a motor

 

Yeah. That back bolt (closest to the firewall) is crap though. Threaded so close to the inside rim of the head. Gotta silicone the crap out of it or get coolant in the block.

 

yea the one in the verry back of the valuve cover i didnt even know it was there untill i tried to take the vaulve cover off and it didnt move in the back so i started lookin hard and then i found it
and the last 1 on the drivers side of the head i couldnt even get the rachet on it i had to out the deep socket on the bolt and then slide the rachet between that lip in the fire wall and the socket
bout killed my finger getting it on

 

X 23435 or you'll just warp that head again and leak coolant everywhere.
also if your buddy has the cash take the head to a shop to have it looked at and tested, maybe $100 tops. at least it was in my experience with a volvo 3.0 4 banger that need machining.
spending on a manual now will save you headaches down the road man, i'd buy one.

 

hes not real worried about machining it the jeep itself is worth around 250$
and hes not gonna keep it for long its just a get to school car
hes gonna get a jeep wangler when he goes off to collage hes in 10th grade now
as long as it runs and last him at least 2-3 years hes cool with it

 

You've got to be kidding me. Jeeps, those with the 4.0L especially, are damn near bulletproof. Not to mention decent on gas (18-20 mpg easy) and very fun to drive with 190HP and loads of torque. The turning radius on a Cherokee makes my double cab look like a Kenworth.

My friend had an '88 Cherkokee Chief 4.0L 5 speed with 180k miles on it as his first car in high school. He beat the bag out of it, never spent a dime on repairs, and sold it to another guy in the class just ahead of me. I taught the 2nd guy how to drive stick on it and it was his daily driver for almost 2 years. At 210k miles the 2nd gear syncro went bad and he finally bought a new car because it would have cost more for a transmission than the Jeep was worth.

Another friend of mine had a 92 Cherokee 4.0L automatic that ran to 240k miles, even after being rolled on it's side on a snowy road in Maine one ski season. I bought it from her dad for $300 and drove it for a winter in college...w/ 4x4 I pulled a full size Ford Van out of a snowbank and my friend's FWD escort out of a frozen parking lot where he got stuck trying to drive in foot deep snow. After that trouble free winter I parked it for the summer and the alternator seized when my parents started it 2 months later. I junked it because I didn't have a need for a car at that point and, like my friend above, an alternator would have cost almost as much as the car.

Jeep isn't held in high regard because of "marketing hype" they're praised because they've built quality vehicles since WWII.

 

so its been a while and we finnally got all the parts we needed and we (i) installed them almost finished only 1 lil tincy tiny little proublem it kinda backpries out of the throtle body
why its doing that i am clueless also a hose is leaking antifreeze but thats a simple fix i kno whats wrong with it
but anyway the backfireing out of the throtle body any 1 have ideas??
im open to suggestions

Did you take the distributer out? your timing sounds like its off

 

no but i did figure out what the proublem was
when i put the head back on i just threw the spark plug wires on and didnt even bother checking if they were in the right place or not
but 2/ 6 aint all that bad
right???
