Wouldn't be so bad if the state didn't have to have their $30.

Why would a dealer transfer for free, unless you know the guy its just dumb business? That's like me walking in, saying hey you want 530 for that gun but I can get it for 500 online. Would you do a free transfer for me so I can buy the cheaper one online?

If I had a local dealer willing to do free transfers, he would get 100% of my local business.

He's making a lot more money on targets, hearing protection, cleaning supplies, and all of the other "little stuff" that we consume than he makes on guns.

I would say most shops do transfers for $75-150 depending on area and if you are a regular at the shop. Average in my area is about $120 all in for a transfer. Some chare less for long guns than handguns too, and some shops refuse handgun transfers and will only transfer long guns. It's nuts. So many penalties for loving guns in Cali. I would hate to think of how much more I have spent on my toys even getting hooked up, just due to my Zip Code

Unless you're just assembling it to look at it, buying the cheapest isn't advisable. If, in fact, you're buying it for shooting, I'd also suggest just buying a complete factory gun from the likes of Colt, and going and shooting it to learn what works best for you.

There is a big misconception that if you "build your own you get exactly what you want". While that part might be true, with no experience with the platform, you are unlikely to get what you need.

There is nothing wrong with buying an AR as a man Barbie, and in fact that is what the vast majority if AR-buyers are doing (whether or not they can be honest about that), but if you're looking to actually use the gun for anything other than looking at it, and posting pictures on the Internet, buying a basic gun, magazines, ammo, and training is where it's at.

i've never paid more than $20 for an FFL transfer.....a few years ago, transfers around here were never more than $5-10

paying them more than $20 is a rip off. all they do is fill out half a page of paperwork and make a 30 second to 1.5 minute phone call

I didn't get conned into anything. That ALMOST $2k includes my eotech which was about $450. So I've got in the gun alone about $1300 in parts.

$1300 for a stag is a rip... considering you can get a colt or bcm for under 1k.
    However YMMV :pccoffee:

New Frontier Armory has some great stuff....where I got my lowers. Then went through Red X arms to get my upper. Put my own BCG in and that's all folks.

I just paid $20 for a FFL transfer for a SARSA shotgun. Paid $30 for the shipment of 2 lower receivers.
