I installed a new ken wood double din, if I must say it was agood job for not messing with wires in a long time. Anyway now I am getting a lot of jiggle rattling from the head unit over rough road. I've pulled the dash apart and tightened the brackets around the body of the head unit and the bolts back into the dash with no resolution. Anyone have any ideas?

mine did that too, make sure its not the dash kit, mine ended up being the black plastic that sits inbetween the dash kit and the actuall unit

i had bad vibrations from mine as well, but i found the "play/jiggle" was from the plastic part of the dash the radio brackets bolt it, it had some flex in it when i had my ken wood double din pulled out today.

i rolled up 3 napkins from chipoltle and wedged it under the head unit and dash trim to take some weight off the mounts... looks tacky, but half the roads out here are dirt and washed out bad.

Are there any higher end dash kits that may prevent this?

I had a similar problem. I have a kenwood ddx419 with a metra 95-8214 dash kit. The way it mounted was kind of flawed I thought. You had to mount the head unit in the truck and then snap the dash kit over it. I fixed this issue by glueing with epoxy the metra trim piece to the rest of the dash kit and then mounting the head unit to the dash kit. Then I snapped it into place and then bolted it in. Now it's supported by the bolts and the plastic studs which snap into the dash. I'm redoing it in a week or so though with another new dash kit because I made some mistakes with the paint. I can post pics when done.

Will do. I'll post a small write up of what I did. I could probably tell you exactly what kit you have if you can post some pics. Looks like the kit will arrive on Friday and I'll be putting it in the following Tuesday.

The new style Metra kit solved my rattling issue. I never was able to stop the rattles with the Schosche kit.

With the Metra kit I was able to mount the head unit (AVH-P4300DVD) with the factory metal brackets and then slide the dash kit over it. It clips in nice and snug and is much more solid than the flimsy Schosche kit.

I use the metra kit. It does not rattle. It is totally separate from the HU. It essentially just surrounds it. No issues. DNX9990HD

I just fixed this issue today in mine. Recently I ordered a double-DIN head unit from Crutchfield, and it came with the Metra unit. I installed it only to find the Metra unit looked like crap, fit like crap, rattled, and felt cheap.

So, what did I do? Simple fix.

I pulled the entire plastic kit from around the headunit again (which, in the case of a double DIN, is mounted by the stock metal brackets and is certainly not any source of rattle). The rattle comes from the plastic trim piece hitting the rest of plastic cover.

I took some super glue, applied some around the area that makes contact with the rest of the dash kit, and pressed it firmly. I'll be damned if it rattles anymore. That problem fixed.

Then, I used the stock plastic clips off the stock dash kit around the stock radio, and made sure they snapped ALL THE WAY onto the new dash kit. This seemed to make a decent improvement in fitment, as well.

Finally, I disassembled the dash kit again and took it outside and hit it with 4-5 coats of Plasti-Dip. I bought the black Metra kit, and the color was an awful match. Plasti-Dip matches the interior of our trucks a lot better. It makes the texturing look a lot less "harsh", and another added benefit is that it provides sort of a rubberized "soft touch" feel to the plastic, and makes it feel a lot more substantial, as well.

Once that dried, I put everything back together. I have to say, it looks 100% better than it did out of the plastic from Crutchfield. That said, I'm VERY disappointed with the quality of material that Crutchfield shipped -- it should fit and feel like what it does now after I messed with it, not like it did out of the box.

Edit: I may come back after a while and see if some double-sided tape along the top and see if it would hold the top corners down a bit. They sit a lot better now than they did out of the box with the Metra clips, but I think some double-sided tape there would remove all the give.

i know this is old but for future references, Metra wont rattle and scosche rattles IMO, since ive had both. I bought the metra kit for 20 bucks, painted it black and looks great.
