So only 2000 miles on the RC Taco, and me and the little lady head into the woods today and up some fun dirt roads so I can use the 4wd for the 1st time, and low and behold the tailgate rattle like CRAZY, and it seems to be the stupid pivoting hinge/right side hinge, where the tailgate is allowed to slide off of and it just sounds so terrible when on not even a rough road, once it starts it sounds like the tailgate is bouncing off or something,

I was just dumbfounded a new truck like this would rattle THAT loud,

I'm gonna call and ask the service dept what they think I could try and do for it before wasting thier time and mine,

Any of you all have the same problem, and if so, how in the world did you fix it...

And I searched google and this forum for the past hour and couldn't find anything specific to a "tailgate rattle" found other threads about rattles but most seemed to be inside the cabin.

    :(

I purchased a cheap tailgate padlock from ebay,

Thinking maybe it will help the tailgate not shift vertically on that hinged segment... Even my girlfriend was asking what I had in the back of the truck making all that noise, :( and there was nothing back there,

If she could drive a 5-spd I was going to have her drive and me sit back there and find the way to fix it. It is that bad...

I've been down a few rough roads in my 2012 and haven't heard any tailgate rattle. I did have a few small rattles in the dash ( wiring harness fixed with tie wraps ).

Maybe there is something floating around inside the tailgate . Maybe remove it and give it a good shake .

    HA!!!! Found it.

I installed my CURT hitch on Wednesday and sure enough the spare was just loose enough it was squeaking and also knocking around at the same time.

Now to research how to silence the chain, you can hear it good also,

And I got my hitch on ebay for 116 shipped!!!

I started reading the thread, and honestly, first thing that popped into my head was 'maybe he's just a pussy?'

Good thing you found it, and it was real. You've redeemed yourself :D
