Installing Of Speakers + Amp to Factory Deck

I'm curious...did you just install the subwoofers in the door and not new tweeters? Also, where did you put the amp and where did you get the rca converter thingy? I am actually in the process of ordering all the parts to do this exact same thing. Only difference is I'll be tapping into my shark fin and running Sirius to the headunit as well.

why wouldn't you just pick up the speaker wires before they go to the door as opposed to shoving all those wires behind your headunit?

I'm assuming because they are split at the doors and all the inputs for the converter are in one place behind the hu. Can't have one converter be at both doors at the same time

 

they are not subs in the doors, just component speakers with mids and highs, and yes those are new tweets as well. The amp will go under the pass seat, thats why it is removed in the pic. The RCA converter will go in behind the head unit.

I got mine off Ebay... there are some that are high in price and some that are not... I didnt go for the expensive ones and they have worked fine for me.

 

A friend gave me some subs and an amp. In order to hook this up from what I understand, I will need to purchase the 2 channel converter and tap into a rear door speaker? I guess my question is where did you tap into the rear speaker and do you have any pictures of where the converter is located at?

I would like pics of the amp install if you have any. What amp did you run and did you have any issues mounting under passenger seat? What speakers adapter mounting plates did you use?

Great information on this topic. I like the idea of keeping the original factory radio with that dash. Ok I have a few questions. I have two 12 inch polk audio bass box with a monoblock amp, which is a 4 channel amp, and a crossover.
What would be the best converter and am kit for this install? I have install in other vehicles but nothing this new. My Tacoma is a 2005 double cab. Thanks for the help

 

I have a couple questions about this.

1> Do you have a template of the tweeter adapter?

2> What do you hook the amp remote turn on wire to on the hu? I thought I read somewhere that the power antenna turns on and off based on the source you are using. As in its on for radio but off for usb.

 

I am going to bump this one up. I have always had really nice stereo systems in all 6 vehicles I have owned but I just got a 2012 trd sport and dont want to replace the HU. I will replace all speakers and add a sub with 2 amps. I just want to know if the sound quality goes to crap still using the stock head unit even though all speakers will have plenty of power? Like at high volumes would the speakers get distorted or would they be clear? I just dont want to spend money on another HU and I want to maintain all features of the stock steering wheel controls, aux, usb, and most important the OEM bluetooth mic (and yes I do know you can buy the kits to keep all of this, I just want to avoid it) Hopefully someone can tell me if the stock HU "filters" or prevents the sound from being much clearer (especially when loud) before I start splicing wires and do all this hooking up.......anyone's thoughts? (besides, "just go buy a aftermarket head unit")

I'm going same route. Keeping Original headset but replacing front speakers & adding two channel amp. Wondering if you can help with a couple of questions?
Amp I am using is a Pioneer GM-A3602 it comes with option of RCA or 'speaker input connector'. The small print says "if speaker input wires from headunit are connected the amp will turn on automatically" then adds "this does not work for all units". The wiring diagram color chart you posted shows no power out cable. So would you know if just by connecting speaker cables as instructed the amp will come on when head unit activated?
Also. When you fitted door speakers, did you not use original harness? I'm thinking not or this would have caused problems when splicing wires.
