    roads would be gridlocked.

i plan on staying put..my neighbors are some angry prepped old ladies. they plan on blocking out culdesac with their bigass RV's..and covering the holes with suppresing fire.

my supplies are neatly put away. not in my house should an earthquake topple it over.

I think i remember seeing a clever way to mount a rifle with manufacturer links on this discussion. I cant find it for the life of me. It was mounted on the roof in an Access Cab. Any help?

Bikes are a great idea if the situation ever arose. lots of other countries use them as load carriers

As so many here are find of saying when it comes to 4wd, its better to have it and not need it, than to need it or or have it.

Forget for a moment, the absolute horror disasters, and just think bout the day to day stuff that can go wrong...

How many of you like playing in the mountains (skiing, climbing, etc) All it takes is a blown tire, bad snow storm, or animal darting in the road, and now you are off the road, unable to easily get help. What turned into a day trip, can easily become days of hoping for somebody to find you, or you being forced to walk dozens of miles for help. The difference between life and death can be made by the choice of supplies you keep with you ...

It really shouldn't take a doomsday prepper to see why having even decent basic supplies with you is a smart move ...

Not sure if it was me you were talking about -- It is a "Big Sky" single sport (non law enforcement - not locking) roof mounted rifle rack. I REALLY like it - it could be handcuffed or cable locked in but I am always with the truck when toting the AR - camping or what not.

    Good luck with your solution....

Best book I ever read was " surviving the economic colapse"...Changed my entire idea of survivalism. That and the " Surviving katrina" website. Changed my entire view of prepairedness. One of the things the book said was sure, there was more crime in the city...but the things that happened in the country were the stuff of nightmares. Out there, no one can here you scream.

Been awhile since I posted in here but another thing you guys may want to think about carrying in your vehicle is an AED. The one I have is a Philips HeartStart OnSite (HS1). Here's the link:

    http://www.healthcare.philips.com/main/products/resuscitation/products/onsite/

Picked it up used on Ebay for $450 and then purchased a new battery and pads for both adult and child, since I have kids.

Basically these are defib's that are idiot proof. We keep them in the trucks at work and they are great to have around. It won't let you shock someone that doesn't need it. I keep it in my truck and put it in the ruck when I'm camping with my kids scout troop in the off chance a kid gets hit by lightning. Same for if a kid looses heart beat due to drowning. Also good for around the house in case one of my boys sticks something in a socket that doesn't agree with him.

Pads aren't that expensive and last a few years. All I know is with all the training I have, I'd be pissed if my wife or kid died because I couldn't bring them back up with CPR.

Good if you're around old people alot as well.

I'll get some pics up on this site when I'm home. I've been saying that for awhile but when I'm home I work on muscle cars and the truck and spend time with the family. I'm on my last contract and then I'll be home for good and have enough time to post up pics of my kit.

    Later.

I agree. My plan is to shelter in place which I think is going to be adequate for 90% of the "disasters" Food, water medical etc... good for 90+ days If things are so bad that 90 days is not adequate Things are really bad and you would likely need to be so prepared as to have a second location in BFE that is fully stocked and defensible.

There are a million scenarios and what if's that can play out but I think before people think secondary location and bugging out you should be prepared to sustain yourself at your primary location for a decent amount of time as the most likely scenario is a natural disaster or power/water failure that will be rectified within a reasonable amount of time. Thats just my opinion and what I have prepared for because I do believe and have seen what a sustained power failure does to the road system after only 8 hours. You are not getting anywhere fast.

That's right city slickers. Stay out of the country, bug in, and we won't make you squeal like a pig. Out here, shit gets weird even without an apocalypse. In fact, I don't think anyone would notice if the end of the world did happen.

I would install a dual AGM battery setup and isolate one battery for radios, lights, etc and the other to restart the engine.

I have two of their satcom bags that I use all the time riding my motorcycle and they are very tough, good quality bags and I would imagine that these would be just as good. Hope you like 'em.
