Post #1 here... Hope I'm in the right spot.

Back in March I purchased a 2012 Access Cab Tacoma TRD Sport w/towing. This happens to be not only my first Toyota (normally a Honda guy), but also my first truck (ain't work related goodies great)... Anyway, I find myself with a few questions, and was hoping someone could help.

I'll start with the badging... Mine says "Prerunner" and "V6" on the back... But it lacks the "SR5" badge... I've seen Double Cabs with all three, and the TRD on the side. Is this just Toyota's badging? or is something missing? Does TRD supersede SR5? But if so, why would I see it on Double Cabs? I've yet to see another TRD Access Cab to check it against.

Speaker question... The sticker said "6-Speaker", with "2 ceiling-mounted speakers"... Where exactly would those be? So far I've been assuming 4 speakers, two in each door. To the best of my knowledge there aren't any, anywhere else in the truck... Also, the back doors have what looks like a panel you could cut out to install speakers in them. Is there a Tacoma kit for this? Or would I have to go completely after-market for it... I don't really want the speakers, I just want any brackets and grille that would keep it looking as unmodified as possible.

Next, I know the X-runners have a sub-woofer/amp combination that fits between the two back seats, and I believe the grille is done by Alienware. If this is true, would the mounting points/brackets be installed in a non-XRunner? I want to install an amp and I was thinking that would be a good place, especially if it already had some of the hardware in place.. Also, does anyone know if just the Alienware (assuming they make it) grille is available?

I know these are all stupid little questions, but I'm a complete Toyota/Tacoma neub...

Finally, is it just me, or does the Access Cab have some bad blind spots? Or is that any kind of Truck/SUV?

    Thanks for your help,

    Caz

TRD does supersede SR5, starting in 2012 (I think) they quit putting SR5 badges on TRDs (although you do have the SR5 package).

The two ceiling mounted speakers are above the headliner, turn the stereo to the rear and you'll hear them, very small and don't sound very good. There used to be speakers in the rear doors in previous years and there are threads about retrofitting those into the newer doors that don't have them.

Not sure on the sub/amp, I think what you are referring to is part of the JBL audio package that was optional on the trucks, I don't think it is specific to the X-runners, just an audio option for any of the trucks.

Have not heard of Alienware grills either...so can't offer much of an opinion.

    Hope this helps!

When I was at the dealer the other day I noticed that none of the 2012 TRDs had the SR5 badge on the tailgate.

The rear speakers are just a couple of small transducers that use the headliner itself as the speaker surface. You won't see a cone if that's what you're looking for.

No idea about your third question.

2010 was the last year the SR5 badge was on TRD equipped trucks. The Flux Capacitor (BTTF) style sub was in the TRD Off Road and X-Runner from '10-11. I have no idea who made/designed it. For the 2012 it is only available in the X-Runner. The wiring may be there, but you may have to ask your dealer, if no one here chimes in. There is a thread here, with a member getting rid of one for free you may want to look into. Some like it, most other don't. I don't mind it.
