Alarm Gurus

This truck is weird like that. When I press lock/unlock on my remote, I hear both pulses, but the locks react on the first pulse still. If I change the alarm to single pulse, then they don't work. Its weird. I think if this doesn't work, something else is connected wrong. Its not the brain. Its either a programming issue or a wire is not corrected to the right spot. Lock/unlock should be the easy part of this alarm. Its odd that everything works except this part.

Thats what I thought. Could it be a bad alarm green wire since I am getting a signal with the blue?

 

This can't be because didn't you say you swapped the alarm brain 3 times already? Its a simple test of the blue and green wires to see if they are outputting correctly. During lock, one wire should show (+)12v and the other (-) ground. During unlock, the polarity should switch opposite between the 2 wires. If this happens, then the alarm is fine. If the alarm is good, you need a probe to manually apply +/- to the vehicle wires to attempt to trigger the door locks yourself. My bet is that it won't work which means you have something connected wrong. Your xpresskit for remote start bypass has a lot to do with the lock/unlock override at the computer. I would say the xpresskit is your next thing to check. If that is fine, I would attempt to 5-wire the lock unlock wires. If your not familiar with this, it is designed to isolate the alarm signal from the factory signal. It is required in many alarm applications. It also supplies a higher voltage to those wires. This may be a stupid question, but are you 100% sure the 2 pin lock/unlock cable is plugged into the correct port on the alarm?? IIRC, it fits into more than 1 port.

It is also very important that you disconnect the blue and green wires from the car and check the functionality of the door locks using only the factory system. Make sure the un/lock feature works with BOTH the factory remote AND with the key as well as with ALL lock/unlock switches inside the cab. If any function is impaired or malfunctioning, it is highly possibly you damaged the ecu while connecting the alarm and this is why is no longer works correctly. This step needs to be verified before doing anything else!

If all this works fine, and you still can't figure it out, I would recommend taking it in to have a shop finish it. They shouldn't charge very much to simply connect 2 wires. I'd charge $50 to start trouble shooting. If it was simple, I'd keep it at $50, if it turns out to be major like rewiring another part of the alarm or using relays etc, I'd make it $75-100 depending how extensive it gets. And that is not a buddy hook up or anything, that's a fair price even for a shop to charge. It should not be more than $50 to be honest. That's plenty for a simple trouble shoot. Its too easy to do major permanent damage to the truck and is not worth taking the risk.

As others have suggested, I HIGHLY recommend you do NOT open the alarm brain and attempt to "fix it" yourself. Your alarm is fine, I can almost guarantee it. Especially if this is the third brain and still same results. Its clearly operator error and not product malfunction.

Good luck. Wish I could help more, but without having the truck to look at, there's only so much I can do. I'd be willing to bet my money on one of the things I mentioned above. Either incorrect plug or wires, or your using the wrong xpresskit or it I'd improperly connected. Good luck and keep us posted.

 

Well I feel like a complete idiot. I didn't have the plug connected to the correct port. Everything is working 100% now. Thanks to all that helped.
