It sound like it could be more then you're rear. Could you get it to move in 4h with just the front diff.

Yeah, just being an ass, if the rear is blown, like mentioned, 4 hi should still move the front wheels. Maybe it's a tranny issue. Anything leaking?

it's not that people don't have answers. drain the fluid and see if chunks come out. whens the last time you checked the fluid or changed it.

it would help wear it faster. also having 4L engaged with front and rear tires on pavement and hitting the gas is not good.

BTW....4L in an auto is only for rock crawling. NEVER needed in situations where tire spin is detrimental (mud/sand/snow). 4L in an auto is basically useless in this region. the only times I have used mine were at RC or URE wheeling. I only engage it on fire roads to keep it lubed up.

one tire on pavement and one on grass in 4L when hitting gas = bad in every way.

I have beat the piss out of mine and never had an issue *knocks on wood*
I have also done some really stupid shit and the mechanical LSD keeps working great. We have the same model and year truck.

How many miles you got on it?

I would stop driving it until you can crack it open and check it out.

Hmmm.. Shifter position sensor thinks its in reverse, does it also show what gear your in? I had a switch for aux reverse lights that would back feed the sensor and make the truck think I was in reverse as well as whatever gear I was really in. It would throw a check engine light too.

I would try to put the truck up on jack stands and turn one tire at a time and see if you get any weird noises. Also do you know for a fact that the drive shaft was actually turning?

Yea then definitely pull the third member or find a shop that does gears if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

    great idea

like Josh said jack it up and turn the tires by hand.

it couldn't help the situation, but not sure it would hurt it.

shit happens. 66k is way to long though. keep it at around 20k. after this I'm sure you will. it's super easy to do. your looking at 20 minutes tops to change it in your driveway with one wrench, one drain pan, 3 quarts, and 4oz os LSD fluid. Super simple to do.

I won't flame because I'm sure your already kicking yourself in the ass.

FWIW - I let mine go for about 40k and man was it toasty. the metal on the magnetic drain plug was about 1/4" thick. I will now be doing mine at 15k.

I'd say, that wouldn't help the matter. But Josh had the best idea and drain the diff and see what comes out.

I have mechanical LSD which has more moving parts then your diff so more wear.

Your basically open diff 99% of the time until you lock it so the oil gets minimal wear.

My front open diff fluid always looks great along with my transfer case.
