and I think longer shackles an 5150s are in my future. why are they sold individually, thats dumb

 

hmmmm..anyone know if i can wire in two of my 6'' LED bars into my reverse lights AND on a switch..

Can i just run power from both the relay and the reverse lights and have a common ground?

 

cause they are a more "custom" shock i guess..or something

well i was afraid that my shocks were not going to be long enough. guess you just confirmed that. Now my mod list for next years wherever we go is not longer shackles, 5150s and oba.

anyone wanna buy some 5100s??

Yes, stock shackles are 3.5" eye to eye on 1st gens, regardless of model year.

Your 5.5" extended length toytec shackles gave you 1" of extended lift. I've been wondering about the ratio between extra length and lift for a while. It is not 1:1. It is much closer to 1:2. I had called toytec on their "2" lift extened shackles" and asked for a bolt to bolt measurement. They are 7.5". 4"s longer than stock.

Mark has a set that are 5"ers bolt to bolt. He bought then years ago from NWOR and he told me they give 1.5" of lift. He based this on what NWOR claimes on their website.

"NWOR's new high-tech, extended shackles incorporate precision-machined spring pins. They have been gun-bored and cross-drilled to allow proper lubrication. These greaseable pins also feature machined threads and real aircraft quality lock nuts. The front set is 3" longer than stock (2" lift). The rear sets are 2-5/8" longer than stock (1-5/8" lift), which will level your truck."

This is inaccurate information. To be able to give 1 5/8" of lift they would have to be over 6.5" long, bolt to bolt. They are not. They are 5.0" long. Based on what toytec and wheelers have told me, these will only give about 3/4" of lift. Which for me would be about what I want except I have vowed not to spend another dime at NWOR.

Which is why I'm looking for another source of 3/4" lift shackles.

Yea well to fully utilize better droop you'll need longer shocks.

So you want 3/4'' lift total? 5'' long shackles? or you want just 3/4 over?

I mean i know that the ratio is 1:2, thats common Shackle knowledge.

I have never seen a shackle kit that is only 3/4'' longer over stock. Hell i think most i have seen are 1'' lift shackles..so 2'' longer then stock.

 

since stock shackles are 3.5'' and you want 6'' that 3'' over stock, so 1.5'' of lift from a 6'' shackle

mine are 5.5 so i get 1'' lift from the shackles.

 

If they are 6" from bolt to bolt, then they are 2.5" longer that stock. half of that 2.5" will translate to lift. So yeah, about 1.25" of lift.

actually tho they are the same basically Mark..the 5125s do come in more sizes so keep that in mind..

 

THis is another thing that is making me wonder..i mean i guess mine could be called 6'' shackles if you measure from end to end..so i wonder where the manufacturer measures from..

not to mention..lift would be iffy depending on the angle the shackles sit at too..

 

thats my reasoning. ill feel so much cooler and faster if i have resis. I want to make my truck mid travel, so might as well get some decent shocks out back while im changing it out anyway. Ill just have to make sure i can get the 5150s in the right size.

Sadly, 5150s don't come in that many of sizes, so you'll probably end up with the same ones i have, in which case you'll need taller bumper stops.

Also..i wouldn't really call these shocks Mid travel shocks..

Flex is relative sorta. If you keep some weight back there it'll flex better and ride better.

the Shackles will give you way way more droop tho..like your whole tire below the sliders low.

and yes, if you don't get bigger bumps then you will over compress the 10'' travel 5150s. I don't give a shit tho as im gonna get some new better shocks eventually and relocate them so i won't have to get a bigger bumper stop and loose some up travel.
