Hey i'm new to the sight but found this through google. and wanted to say that u inspired me to build my own bed extender. A guy i work with heard me talkin about building one and he said he had some garaged door braces that i could have. about 3 hours later this is what i came up with.
the latch is just a section of angle with 1 hole on each side and i notched out one side to fit in my tail gate latch. i just ran some electric fence wire through that hole and to the d ring for now but im gonna make something a little easier to connect and disconnect for takin it in and out.

Hey guys im brand new to the forum, I always find myself on this site to learn more info about tacomas and finally decided to make an account. However, i have a question. I have a 2010 regular cab prerunner Tacoma and its only 2wd. I want to someday switch it over to 4wd, does any body know where or how much the cost is for something like that? i know there is always the alternative of buying a cheap old tacoma thats already 4x4, however, i dont want to go that route. I love my truck and how ive make some mods on it and was just wondering how much it would cost to make it 4x4. Thanks guys!

I don't want to burst your bubble too much but this thread will not cover the 4x4 conversion. It is neither cheap or free, but there is a lot of good info on this forum and really helpful people. Welcome

Honestly, it would probably be cheaper to buy another truck than do the 4wd conversion. Others have looked into it, none actually done it as far as I know.

    Hey everyone,

I am brand new to the Toyota family and I found a lot of useful and informative info on this site so I though I might contribute by showing off a neat little mod I did for my truck bed. I think most tacos since 2010 have the enclosed storage compartment near the tailgate on both sides. Well, I thought it might be a good theft deterrent to install a lock on one of them. If someone is really determined than they could definitely get by this but it will at least give them a second thought. Check it out. ;)

2005 and later all have them.
    Good thinking, installation looks sharp.
There already are a couple of different versions of this posted. A couple are cheap and similar to yours (I think one replaces one of the knobs), and of course, Pop-Lock makes a complete steel replacement for just under $200 per side.

Thanks for the correction. I'm having a fun time learning all of the history and ins and outs of the Tacoma world. (pun intended) I started with replacing the knob first but you run into 2 problems that I found. 1) unless you do both sides then someone can just pry the unlocked side open and 2) the knobs already have a slot cut to receive the bar that locks it in place so it makes it difficult to keep the lock tight because the slot they cut is pretty wide. Thats awesome about pop-lock, have to check that out!

I got just a normal drawer lock from lowe's. I think it was about $4 but what I am concerned about is how it will do in weather conditions... I will repost about it if I start to see rust or corrosion...

    1) Measure the distance between knobs and center
    2) Drill 3/4 inch hole
    3) Measure from the front of the removable panel that you install the lock on to the bar that will be serving as your lock and the transfer that measurement to the top of the box.. (you will have to remove the box from the bed to cut it)
    4) make the slot you cut snug because you don't want it to be easy to pry open and viola! you have a locked storage box ;)

The steel compartment is made by Tuffy, not pop- lock unless they started making oe too.
