Getting the runaround. 2007 DoubleCab PreRunner with 40k (OOW I know)
Went to Capistrano Toyota in San Juan, CA. Told me OOW, call Toyota.
Called Toyota, said yes under TSB, Contact Capistrano Toyota CS Manager.
She calls me back a couple days later, says bring it in.
Bring it back to tell Service Manager, he pawns me off to the same guy that sent me to Toyota.
Sit around a couple hours while they "inspect" it. Tell me it's not covered because not 4X4.
Call Toyota back, they now tell me it's not covered because it's not 4X4.
Argue that the TSB says PRERUNNER. He says too bad, it's not under warranty.
Ask to speak to a manager, he say no way, nothing we can do for you.
Capistrano Toyota calls me back, says she checked with the Toyota District Manager for out of warranty exception, and I was denied.

I asked her to mention to him that I believe this poses a safety hazard, and that the truck is incapable of handling the load specified in the owner's manual. I am awaiting a final callback...

Long story short, Both Toyota and the Dealer are very non-commital, and not willing to go the extra mile to service a truck that is a few thousand miles out of warranty.

Anyone in SoCal area able to get out of warranty TSB Springs done? I am in OC, but would consider SD/LA/IE as well.
If so, PLEASE PM the dealer you went to, and the service manager contact info if you have it.

This is the response I got from Toyota of Waldorf.

    Mr. B,

The TSB that you are referring to applies to 4WD Tacomas which I am assuming yours is. The TSB was put out to offer the spring upgrade for vehicles that are constantly loaded down such as vehicles that are construction trucks with tool boxes, etc. If these springs are put on a Tacoma that is used primarily for general use and daily driving with a heavy load, the added spring tension makes the ride stiff and causes driving vibrations (The TSB lists this). As far as I am aware, I do not know of any change between the 2009 and the previous years for suspension. I would caution you about changing the springs for the occasional load. I have only seen one at this dealership (a 2007) and it was a construction use vehicle that was constantly loaded.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, let me know.

    Thank you,

    Michael D. Pavan

What are everyones opinion of the ride before and after the TSB?

My daily driving ride quality was 10x better with them. I could noticeably tell it was a bit stiffer, however It was exactly what I wanted since it have me much better handleing on turns, etc.

First, the guy is incorrect. The TSB applies to 4x4 and PreRunners.

The pre-TSB ride is more comfortable, but it felt sloppy. I love the ride after the TSB. I would definitely do it again.

x2, the stock ride is very comfortable but as he said, after the TSB it feels like things are tightened back up and handles better

    Too few to list.
Let me get this straight, the TSB gives you the 4 leaf pack but the old springs are the 3 leaf pack with part number ending with an "F" and supposedly the updated 3 leaf pack ends with a "G"?

got it done! Woo. They screwed up and gave me ALL NEW SHOCKS as well! Ordered the wrong TSB parts I guess since I already have a TRD :) Personally it doesnt ride stiffer to me, but handles way better at high speeds. I usually have about 100 or 200 lbs in the back though. sucker is like a real truck now and doesnt bounce all over when you step in the bed.

Got mine done at Pat Lobb Toyota of McKinney, no problems. I called them last week and told the service writer the problem. He said he had personally never had a Tacoma with that issue but that he would check with the techs. I suggested they have the parts in stock BEFORE I bring it in. He called back in 30 minutes and said yes that is quite common, bring it on in next Saturday morning and the parts will be here. Dropped it off at 7 AM and picked it back up at 1 PM with the alignment and a very nice car wash. Rides a little firmer but more like a truck now. Steering feels tighter but that is because the center of gravity has changed and there is slightly more weight forward now on the front end. They did do the alignment too as the steering wheel was canted just slightly to the left and it is dead on now. I like the height increase at no charge too. :)

My hat's off to Toyota of Colorado Springs. Called, explained the problem and, though I was told the TSB doesn't cover my '09, was informed they had done other '09's and didn't have a problem ordering the parts for me. I'll update when parts are in and installed...

Thank you to Knickerbocker for mentioning Hyannis Toyota.

I originally went to Route 44 Toyota in Raynham, hoping to get this done (even though I was at 39k miles). They looked at me like I had two heads when I asked them about it saying they never heard of it. They did end up looking it up, and after putting in my vin said "no you don't qualify, you are beyond the 3 year mark." I couldn't get mad about them saying no though, since I was actually past the 36k mile mark, I wasn't aware that I was past the 3 year mark though (I thought it went off of date of purchase since I bought the truck new).

So I was reading through this thread to try and find where people in Eastern Mass had gotten it completed. I called up Hyannis Toyota, they bring up my vin and ask for my mileage. I give them the vin and tell them I am just over 39k miles. He told me, "you are a little over on mileage, it is supposed to only be covered up to 36k miles, but you are close enough. Let me call Toyota and I will talk to them and call you back." He called me back and said, "they said it was close enough and go ahead and do the tsb." He ordered the parts and called me when they came in to set up my appointment. I got it done yesterday, and I am very satisfied. They did charge me $40 to remove and replace the nerf bars (they where in the way of removing the leaf spring bolts, and he said since they where aftermarket bars, they had to charge me), but since they didn't even have to do the TSB, I wasn't going to complain about that.

Wow I got a little long winded there :p That is why my only other post is my introduction post. Well plus I usually find what I am looking for using the search feature.

Is there a 1-800 Number that we can call to inquire about this TSB or open a Case Number?

I have been turned down by Maquire Toyota in Ithaca, NY for my '09, but I will dig a little further or even head up to LIA Toyota in Albany, NY if Maquire does not get off their ars.

Key words? - harsh ride under load. Sagging under load...
