    crap bolted and welded together....
Technically their is an air suspension you can get that's not air bags. They actually have shocks that you run that cycle air. Msost use is for SLOW crawling.

I can't shit talk against body lifts enough. Literally the worst way to lift a truck ever. Absolutely, unbelievably awful haha.

I think he's just talking about air shocks, am I right?

Man spent the full last 4 days moving and still have two rooms to clean up. How the heck.
Still, I'm in - House is so much nicer. I was so excited that I almost took a picture of my dangly garage tennis ball and my wompin' yard.

    OME is not adjustable
Airbag from my knowledge is for towing heavy ass stuff. Not an offroad thing
hydraulic lifts are for work equipment and farm vehicles in case that's what you were wondering
I think cholos use hydro too?
Hi-Lift is a type of recovery tool, not suspension
Zach has Long Travel (LT). Benefits there are increased ability for suspension travel.
Solid Axle swapping (SAS) does not in and of itself do anything to a lift. It's simply different than IFS with benefits and drawbacks.
Maybe you were looking at linked suspension? I know nothing of this stuff, mysterious technology. :p

You can go to a 6" lift but you have to drop your diffs down, so what's the point?
There's an amazing amount of stuff a good driver can do with a stock truck.

My advice is stick with what you have and build finesse. 2 foot driving, better path selection, better use of accelerator. I suck at the last one myself (too slow most of the time)

Before I answer, are you lifting for looks or performance?

I can swing the BBQ, not sure if the landlord would approve the mod day :p
Looks like I might have a cool neighbor who's a Jeeper. Not sure if he's just show or he takes it places. Another neighbor looks like an old car guy. Guy across the street has a car graveyard and you can hear conversations but can't see any people  Everyone else hides

My tires are going on by the end of week I think. They will probably get here before the spare shows up. Guy at Costco is on T4R and was pumped to help me.

Moving was spendy so trying to build back the bank account.

BBQ it is then. I think I saw the Jeeper guy across the street and a couple houses down, looked like a trail-ready rig.

That guy @ Costco is pretty cool, he was the one who mounted my tires and we BS'd about our trucks for a while. He had an old Runner, fully caged with 44's. I think his name was Jason (???). I also saw that a guy from high-school is working in there too now, his name is Nate. I have always been pretty pleased with the crew there.

Surprise Lake is nice b/c it's less than an hour away, more technical than Tahuya in parts, and the lake itself is pristine.

Thanks, this is extremely helpful. I am quickly realizing that I am missing a lot of this basic knowledge. The sort of stuff you don't know exists until someone mentions it. Then you look like a giant noob asking about it. Thats ok though, I know I still have much to learn.

I think I will take your advice and stick with what I have for now. This truck will eventually become a secondary vehicle and once that happens it will become an offroad monster!

Definitely performance. Usually if it performs well it looks really good, too. Not always the case the other way around.

There are zero performance gains from a body lift. You can stuff a little bit bigger tire, but you get no increase in suspension travel or handling, which is the holy grail of offroading more or less. Also, your undercarriage and frame and all that doesn't gain any ground clearance to dodge boulders, stumps, sasquatch, etc. And in my mind, a body lift is the quintessential trailer trash mod. Never ever seen one that looked good. A lot of people don't see harm in them, but I've spent way to much time living around all the hillbillies with their miserably nasty fullsizes that only have a body lift and 37's that only use skinny pedal and beer to get over obstacles. Its something I've developed a bit of a OCD pet peeve about haha. Body lifts are right up there with drop brackets, its just tacky and a big no-no if you're going to wheel it.

haha its your truck, if you want one go for it. Its just one of those things that I feel strongly about when it comes to modding. If you do go with coilovers and a new leaf pack or even just spacers and blocks, your cab, frame, and drive train all gain ground clearance plus you can fit some bigger tires with a little persuasion here and there.

Hey Guys, I just bought my first truck and live in the portland metro area. Is it hard to install your own lifts? I was thinking about going this route.

(I do not have a mechanics bone in my body, but im willing to learn)

    Bili 5100's
    OME 885x coils
    2" AAL
    LR UCA's

    Any thoughts?

Lefty loosie, righty tightie. If you can remember that you can install your own lift. If you are planning on doing any real offroading in the future I would get a nice adjustable coilover like ICON's, Kings, etc that are valved for your truck. Also if you can swing it financially get a full replacement leaf pack like dakars, deavers, or all pro's instead of an AAL. If it's not in the cards, what you have listed will get you down the trail.

I did a similar upgrade to mine. It was pretty easy. Just need a basic set of wrenches and sockets, a car jack and a couple 24" jack stands. A second pair of hands never hurts either. The equipment usually comes with very easy to follow instructions. Good luck and enjoy.
