it varies state to state, but yes, most states require amber blinkers. Mostly b/c red flashing lights coming from behind someone resembles an emergency vehicle.

But why do you want to use red blinkers? Are you replacing the covers or the bulbs?

just to be different. i need to replace the whole thing (they got smashed while offroading) and im planing on building a tube bumper here pretty soon so i figured i would get a set of the LED turn signals from trail gear rather then just replace the broken ones

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
Ok..this is a toss up when it comes to this topic.

I've talked to a few city cops about it..red lights are OK in the front of your vehicle as long as they DON'T flash/blink. I've talked to Highway Patrol though and they say it's illegal to have any sort or form of red light in the front of your vehicle. We all know Highway Patrol are straight douchebags though(no offence to any on here, nothing personal).

I looked up code, and according to California Vehicle Code...it is illegal to have emergency color lights up front(red and blue)..but I don't remember stating whether that applied to blinking/flashing lights only or any light's period.

Now I've never been in trouble or pulled over for having red LEDs as my corner lights. I've been pulled over and issued a license plate ticket and cop plain view saw my red LED's..they were bright as fuck.

Now when I did the turn signal mod..I switched back to amber because that definetely was a NO NO.

I had my running lights as red LED's..no problems like I said for years.
Luck of the draw? Not sure.

Wonder if my truck is legal? I put in clear bulbs up front for my blinkers.

No, for a general rule, go white lens=yellow/orange bulb. Orange lens=white bulb

Everywhere is different. Here its white to amber up front and amber to red in the rear. And we arent allowed any red light to be visible from directly in front of the vehicle. No blue at all is allowed

The front has to have yellow turn signals but the lens can be clear w/ a yellow bulb.

I've seen some blue and green turn signals here, dunno if they are legal here or not. They use to get on people with clear lenses in the rear, but some cars come that way from factory! So hows a cop to tell which is what!

All vehicles that come from the factory with clear lenses all have amber bulbs behind them.
