It's not necessarily that the K&N filters are bad at filtering, but their CAI system for the Tacoma is garbage. It just draws warm air from the engine bay rather than cold air, ya know, like the stock air box does from the inside of the fender well. If properly maintained, there's nothing wrong with K&N filters in my opinion.

So was that mustang ever in a convoy of trucks in the woods spitting up so much dust you couldn't see 3' in front of your face?

Pretty sure comparing a car to a truck is a bad comparison :notsure:

Actually I lived in a farming community and was on dirt roads all the time so to answer your question... Yes.. DERP

Edit: Pulled out my filter snapped a pic of the inside of the filter and no I did not clean it.

I think we should impose a "You have to have 50 posts before you can start a thread" rule. That would cut down on these topics that have been covered billions of times. Also maybe a "Read this thread before you can post" rule and have the thread say something like, "if you have a question you need answered try the search function first as most topics have been covered many times over already" I think that would solve lots of problems:cool:

Also, I have the afe pro dry drop in filter on the stock cai and while it seems rather thin I have yet to notice any dust get past it for the ~6000 miles I have had it in there and I have been in some pretty dusty places with my tacoma.

So you were driving with trucks in front of you doing 40 in the dirt? Derp

Farming community my ass. Anyone living in a rural place who drives Mustangs down dirt roads as their DD is a Derp. One good rain and your ass is stuck in a puddle of peanut butter. I grew up on dirt roads so you don't need to tell me buddy.

lolz.... I'm not the one in here claiming false facts. You should join the Catholic Church with as much BS as your slinging.

I also had a 12second Mustang with a crate GT-40 motor and intake with Ken Bell ram air linked to a K&N so suck on that dirty air.

A common misconception. The only way to increase throttle response, is to create a faster incomming air current. Reducing the diameter of the intake runners to the heads will increase throttle response, but an after market intake wont. Now...what Im refering to is the engines ability to rev up. Not the actual response of the throttle. The actual throttle response, being electric, can only be affected by programming.

I ran a K&N in my truck for almost 70k. I personally cleaned my intake numerous times and it was filled with shit.

Not only does a OE paper filter have more media it lets through less dust.

You can say whatever you like, but my intake knows the difference between being filled with silica and not being choked full of sand. In another 15k Ill clean my intake and show comparative pictures of K&N and OE paper type at the same mileage of use and the pictures will be worth 1,000 words.

rag from cleaning intake with K&N
    [IMG]

All done now. Ill be back in 15k with some intake pics :D

That's the most common wishful claim after the dyno says no gain.

The most effective way to increase throttle response is to move the throttle body butterfly valve to the base of the intake runner. This way, the engine doesn't have to wait for the intake manifold to fill up after the throttle opens. It's common practice for sport bikes and high-end BMW car engines:
