The oilers should go on a run like they did in the eighties any time now. They have enough #1 overall picks.

I think they will finally make the playoffs next season(whenever that is) . Signing Shultz on defense should help them enormously.

I was at that game :)

He is a good young player. Oilers just need a few more pieces and they can be a very dangerous team in a few yrs.

This is Dubnyk's year to show he is starter material.

I watched him in Springfield before getting called up. Nothing flashy about his style, but never really stole a game either. I'm sure Peckham would be to blame (then and now!)

Theo Peckham? Most definitely the Oilers need to play better D in front of whomever is in net. Dubnyk is a very big guy whose strength is positional goaltending(from my observations). I concur that there is nothing overly impressive about him. He just got a new 2 year deal, so I suspect his future hinges on what he does with it. I look forward to seeing this team take a step forward.

My problem with dubnyk is he just isn't a 50 game goaltender and that will hurt if your starter is not getting the game play over 50% your not maximizing

Montreal has price, he will steal 15 games a year easy

Boston had Thomas he stole a lot

Calgary has kipper he will steal game when needed

Vancouver has two goalies able to steal a game

The list goes on, Edmonton hasn't had good goaltending in a long time, now granted the defense has been pretty atrocious too but they have been famous for high scoring power but an in ability to stop the puck

I honestly thought Edmonton should h have traded down to Malcolm subban this last year

But why are we talking about bottom dwellers......oh wait no NHL until January

I've heard rumors the Pens were in talks with EDM in a trade for Magnus Pjaarvi, someone else for Paul Martin. Not too sure about that one, but wasn't Magnus suppose to be the next Swedish stud?

I think the Oilers are one of the more encouraging teams in the league. They are young and talented and hold my interest. More than I can say for most of the other Canadian franchises right now. Dubnyk may turn out to be a dud, but he is just getting started. Anyone paying attention realizes that goaltenders are often slow to hit their stride at this level.

If not traded, Pajaarvi may even play in the AHL this year. Edmonton might do wise to add some experience, grit, nastiness and ultimately strength to their starting line-up up front. Pajaarvi is likely to be a top-six type forward eventually but may not yet be ready.
