3 leaf TSB dumb question

OK, so I have seen most if not all of the threads concerning the TSB with 4 leaf instead of 3, but here is a dumb question. I just bought an 09 and it has the defective 3 leafs ending in "G". I like to get my truck upgraded but when I talked to the dealership, they said being it in and we will see wat needs to be fixed. Honestly, I do not see/feel anything wrong with the truck (but I have not fully loaded the bed either). I don't want to fully load it just to find out.

What is the defect? How can I describe it to the dealer so that he will perform the TSB?

The three leaf springs do not hold a load as well as the 4 leaf springs do. He may or may not perform the TSB on your truck as you have a 09 and the TSB does not currently OFFICIALLY apply to the 09's.

The complaint is usually related to a harsh ride with a load in the bed.

However...If you like the ride- you may not want to change it.

 

I never loaded mine up either.... and I got the TSB done no questions asked.

Over the winter, I'd put 210lbs of sand in the bed for traction and the rear sagged more than I thought it would for only 210lbs. At that point, I knew it wouldn't handle a scoop of mulch in the bed.

You just gotta find the right dealership.

Do you or any of your neighbors need mulch? Put a scoop of mulch in the bed and drive down to the dealership and I qaurentee it'll be sagging bad - Tell them you're 'concerned for your safety'

 

I understand what you mean about not messing with it if I like the ride, but considering I get new shocks, etc. I rather get the service done.

When you say harsh, how harsh? what exactly do you experience?


On a side note, I do feel a slight steering wheel vibration (almost like the radio bass is too high, but I feel it with the radio turned off), I just don't know if that is normal or not.

I didn't have the issue- but that's cause I'm a squeaky wheel. I told them I was concerned about damaging my bike so I wanted the TSB shocks...they denied my originally because 08's weren't covered....as soon as they were...I got the shocks no (major) issues.

The harsh ride is a sagging bed that will frequently hit the bump stops going over normal road bumps and stuff.

If you want new shocks- the TRD ones aren't bad...but you can keep the 3 pack springs and just spend a lil bit of money and get some better shocks (OME or Bilstein)

 

i didnt notice it until i loaded my truck up with some wire for work. then it sucked.

 

I'm about to get the TSB tomorrow...Anything I should know or do to make sure it is done right???

I've read on here that it will be a bit higher than before, is that permanent???

 

If you have the TSB printed out...Check part numbers...if you don't- check and make sure you have 4 leaf springs on both sides. Make sure you don't hear any funny squeaks or grinding sounds. Then check the part numbers when you get home.

Make sure you get an alignment sheet. If you have the base model shocks-Make sure you get the upgrade to the fleet bilstein shocks.

It will settled...how far is a matter of much debate. Measure it before you take it in...Measure it after you pick it up. Should be good to go man!!

 

Count the springs!!! My dealer put on a new 3 leaf pack on one side, and 4 on the other!
