I know what you mean man, I'm not confined to a patrol car but I work the flight line (f-16 mechanic) and with the way these jets fly I'm lucky if I make it inside for a few to take a piss. We basically eat the first chance we get but I'm usually running around fixing jets for a good non-stop 6-8 hours a day...I sometimes wish I had me one of them cushy indoor smart people jobs...maybe once I finish school, lol

Don't get me wrong, I like it, I like turning wrenches and being a crew chief but going on 6 years straight of working in the desert heat, rain, snow, wind, and all the other elements of weather is getting old. Would be nice to have a job where I'm not either sweatin my ass off or freezing my ass off lol

I always ate a banana before lifting and running. When I don't I can tell the difference in my energy, I tend to get tired a lot quicker. I used to take Caffeine pills, but I tend to build A tolerance to caffeine quickly...

Try a shake and a tbsp of natural pb, sweet potatoes and chicken, oats and a shake (or some kind of lean source of protein)
The lower gi carbs will release at more of a steady rate thus more energy. The banana is great post workout as your insulin levels are most sensitive post weights and in the AM time.

So guys unfortunately I have been out of the gym for awhile. Had my wisdom teeth cut out 2 weeks ago, and realized how much I've lost since I started my new job. I work in a warehouse as a product photographer for a large eBay company and it's been hot the past month or so and I've lost 13 pounds

So gonna start going again....kinda got out of the routine when I started the job well now that I'm settled and healed up from surgery I'm ready to start back. Went last night and it felt great. Got that sore, but good feeling today and it's almost time to start hitting it back again like I was. Wish me luck guys!

ok this was my variation of 5x5...i guess technically by 5 again for weeks performed..
mon chest- flat bench, incline, decline, peck deck,at our gym we have a chest press machine that you can either use a neutral grip or regular grip i would use neutral for this exercise, and last i would either do cable flys from high to low or low to high...this exercise i would do 3 sets of trying to get 20 reps.

tues back- t bar row, lat pulldown, cable seated wide row, narrow row, single arm row(used to do the single arm row with dumbell but maxed out the 150's then found that using the cable you can control all angles to get more concentration on your lat) next i would rotate or pick from one of these two depending on which was open either straight arm lat pulldown or the seated overhead pull machine...both are pretty much the same. the lat pulldown is my fav. of the two just stand behind the seat of a lat pulldown station set the weight pretty light then grip the bar about shoulder width and keep arms straight and pull down till you feel the squeeze in your lats... after this i would do shrugs barbell style, behind the back, and neutral.

wed legs- squat, leg press, leg ext, leg curl, some leg days i would do deadlifts as well.....the calves both seated and standing.

thurs shoulders- smith machine press, front raises with db or 45 lb plate, rear peck deck, cable face pulls( attach rope to a high cable pull twards face and end up in an arnold double bicep type pose) and lateral raises either sitting or standing with db or single arm cable variation.

fri arms- yup both bi and try but alternate between muscles. i would also after two or three weeks change which group i did first.. alternating bicep curls, single arm cable tri pulldowns, straight bar cable curl, weighted dips(feet DIRECTLY under you) ez bar curl both wide and narrow, v bar press down and ez bar(or straight bar) cable pulldowns,.... this is the only day i didnt do 5 exercises for 5 sets i would do 4 exercises for 5 sets then one each bi and tri for 3 sets of going for 20.. for biceps i would do preacher curl with straight bar with no weight and for tri's i would do rope extensions...
i realize this might be a lot of info and i probably forgot something but this is how 5x5 is suposed to be one muscle group 5 exercises and 5 sets with 5 reps

also 5x5 is good for breaking through plateaus if you normally dont lift like that. but after you do a 5x5 workout for a month or however long i would go to a month of 4 sets of 6-8 and then maybe a month of 3 sets of 8-12 or mix it up again and try 3 sets by 15,10,5.

I know this is a few days late :p but a few years ago I was having lower back pain (lower: as in where some chicks get tattoos, you know, right above where the belt usually rests). Went to get checked out, and it turned out my hamstrings needed some stretching.

The tight hamstring muscles were pulling on lower back muscles which caused the pain. I'm not saying this is your case, but just throwing it out there as one of the many probable causes.

Anyhoos, the Dr. recommended that I stretch in a bathtub full of water with epsom salt. after 2-3 days with one 20 min. session of stretching each day, the pain was gone.

I was doing a ton of driving around at that time, and it was a pain in the lower back to just be getting in and out of the truck. Anyways, just my own experiene, as I said before, it's probably not the case with you, but just throwing it out there so others that may not be aware may know the benefits of stretching.
