So for the last few months ive been working on a frame off restoration on a 69 impala. Im pretty close to finishing but have no clue how I should do my paint job. The car isn't going to have any chrome on it. Anything that is chrome is going to be a mettalic silver. I know I want the candy wine red has my primary color and thinking about black and silver as my second and third color any suggestion on how it should be paint? The car isn't going to be totally original more hot rod. Most of the interior is already made its red and black.

    +1

Boss at the place I worked at in HS had a '69 Z28.
DEEP Kandy red with black rally stripes, looked sweet.

On the dash design, I love how GM used to put the AC controls on the left where the passenger couldn't fuck with it. My '69 LeSabre was the same way.

Too bad they didn't do that with the radio.
Funny my '67 Chevelle had the heater/vent controls in the middle.

Yea iknow most impala didn't come with rally stripes I originally had planned to jus paint the whole side wine red and the top hood and trunk black but then saw a impala with rally stripes and knew I wanted them. I was thinking about keep my original plan and adding the rally stripes in silver or wine red. I just feel like it would look odd

What do you mean find a hood in good shape? I have a hood in perfect shape. And everything is getting redone on the car not single bolt on the car I haven't already touched

Ahh... I see what you're saying.

Ya... I have the same feeling.
Rally stripes, or some black pattern would look good, but the entire hood is too much black and with the edges of the hood defining the edge of the color, it does look like a very clean "junkyard" hood was installed on a red body.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
First off, great choice for a resto! My dream muscle car is a 68 SS427, always loved this body style Impala. I thought this looked good.

Thanks. The 69 impala is my second choice 68 is also my favorite. I had a good deal on a 68 but the owner never seemed ineterested in selling it, I had the cash in hand ready to buy it but he would always make excuses.

Just for the record, zero Impalas had rally stripes. Looking like a nice build. I have always believed in simple is better. GL and looking foward to seeing more progress.

IMHO, the stripes are too busy. I like how you brought the black around outside the hood gap to correspond with the body line.

If you are going for the hot rod look, why not employ some hot rod paint techniques. If the red is going to be a nice deep candy, then how about some ghosted candy stripes on your deep black hood. Would still look awesome and custom, but wouldn't be as busy as the silver stripes.

Another option to keep the silver would be to incorporate more silver into your design. Put about a half inch stripe of silver between the black and red.

Personally, I would stick with one color. The two color look is has been Foosed to death. Are you going "hot rod" or "pro touring" look?

Less is more. It's a classic body style. Don't mess it up with too busy a paintjob.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Personally, I'd paint it the original color; green? Or nothing beats Black, all Black or all Silver a close second.
