well, waiting on the picture so let me see if i can use my words. factory 08 access 4x4 running 265/75/16 and swaybar removed. noticed rubbing on the OUTSIDE of the passenger coil, on the rearmost section. anybody notice this? no apparrent clearance issue with the brake line or the factory "shock-tower" (i dunno what else to call it)

    ideas?

not that i can tell, this weekend was my first trip without the swaybar, but was nothing hardcore. the rocks were nothing, the woop-sections snuck up on me a couple times but the truck was nowhere near airborn or anything. i take things pretty slow.

i never wrecked it and the carfax is clean

alignment feels fine as far as i can tell also. and sitting at a standstill, camber and toe eyeball out fine.

may be completely unrelated, but is there supposed to be gaps between the lca and its mounting brackets? the bolts are tight but it does look funny. 1/8" gap or so between each side at both lca mount locations

What I see in the pic looks more like flaked paint, unless you did not touch the area around it. Hard to tell from the pic to be honest.

yea i know especially with that brake line in the way. there definetely is a clearance issue. not flaked paint. but it isnt a huge one since it has barely made it to bare metal.

im almost scarred enough to reinstall my swaybar

only once from the front. high-bermed s-turn that was rather tight. it had a good hole/rut in the middle at the transistion from right to left. now that you bring it up it did make a wrather wretched sound that one time.

but i cannot figure out what could possibly have contacted the coil. i sure dont wanna have it be a recurring thing though

you can tell by simply looking at the picture, the strut is bent. Replace. Great time for some 5100's

angle looks wrong to me. boot is just "showing" it. how did the boot get that tweaked otherwise?

when your suspension is compressing i bet the angle is getting steeper and causing it to come into contact with something (think compress = move 1-2 inches in wrong direction)

and if you look directly behind the wear mark you see an up/down pattern...

OP Can you snap a better picture, wheel pointed as far away from body as possible, get the entire strut.

My boot on my OME shock looks like that sometimes , it's not broken

and if the coil is moving toward the inner fender wouldn't there be rub marks there too ?

it *kinda* looks like it, although could just be the way the picture is (look directly behind lower wear)

compression, the coils be physically twisting and moving back. kinda an extreme, but if it truly is bent, its possible.

we need some better pictures to assist without looking at it with our own eyeballs :)

well, if the pictures arent clear this is at the rearmost portion of the coil, the second photo shows no apparent contact with the "shock tower" (the shiny spot is from my finger)

im clueless, which is not a state i like to be in. there is some marking between the wraps of the coil but i would expect that. these being only on the outside of the wrap really has me boggled. unless the spring warped under compression but i would expect to see my shock all mangled if that was the case. i dunno

HM. Spray something to cover the wear, see if it continues? possibly some sort of odd debris that got caught in and dislodged later?

maybe friend playing a prank? LOL.
