I knew this. Was thinking laminate because of the dog and nails.
    Thanks though :D

Can this be installed over a slab? If I do laminate, all I should need is the vapor barrier sheeting if it has a underlayment already attached right?

Same reason why I was considering laminate, the dog. Which brand of flooring did you use?

    thanks all

I really was stoked to find this pine flooring in an engineered glue down. it was costly but worth it. it's the only area where we went a little over budget on the new place.

and...the installer suggested I use an upgraded glue/adhesive that is a moisture barrier. basicially, I have an approx. 1/8th inch rubber membrane between the slab and the wood flooring.

a 4 gallon bucket of the adhesive was almost 30 bux each, and we used 20 buckets :eek::eek:

but the installer was a one man operation and did a super job for us. matter of fact, I could tell he kinda regretted suggesting the adhesive because it was a lot more work to spread...so I bonused him a little on his invoice.

I almost couldn't believe how square the flooring ran fromone end of the house to the other. (he started in the middle and ran both directions, of course) he did say it was one of the most square homes he ever worked in.

The floors have now been covered in builders paper and cardboard for months...can't wait to finish and "unwrap" them....

    Flooring makes the home IMO.

Thought I would post a couple pics of the shower being built at the house I am constructing .

We are using the Schluter system , and a few people had asked me about it

How do you like working with the kerdi board vs the membrane?

    What's the price difference?

Yes, it can be done over a slab. You just lay down a plastic vapor barrier.

I went with an 8mm laminate with the pre-attached pad from lumber liquidators. It's normally $1.59/sq ft. The day I went to go buy it from my local store, they were running an in store only specialy for $1.15 per sq ft so I was pretty excited about that. Good timing haha.

The Kerdi board is very easy to work with , it is a foam core and simply cuts with a knife . It is secured to the studs with screws through proprietery toothed washers similar to plaster repair fasteners .

It is expensive , but compareable to drywall or backerboard and Kerdi .

My only concern with it so far is that it is less rigid than backerboard and exhibits more flex between framing members , this will likely disappear once tiles are applied

Gonna be painting the master bed/bath today and tomorrow. Finally getting rid of the standard "tan" that was used by the builders. Home depot had a special on Behr paint, $5 off/gallon + my military discount so I'll be saving at least $20 :D

Started the dining room remodel. We had a closet in there that my wife wanted to open up. Here's a before shot:

    wallpaper1.jpg

I cut the closet door in half. We also bought a cheap countertop from Home Depot and cut it to size. Then I remounted the closet doors and put up a mirror.
    remodel dining room.jpg

The next step is to put some faux stacked stone panels up in the closet area and the wall around the opening.

Today we managed to place the 600 lb solid sandstone mantle at the house I am building right now

5" self supporting stone veneer partially built

as the mantle was delivered from the quarry

after much trimming and grinding we lifted it with the mini

onto this scaffolding arrangement outside that consisted of a fixed set , linked to a set on casters inside the house by a scaffold deck , we moved to stone on rollers made of 2" ABS pipe

sorry I didn't get any pics of the rest of the move , but essentially we rolled the caster stage into the house , connected it to another fixed stage of scaffold in front of the stone veneer , rolled the stone onto the fixed stage and levered it onto the wall

as it sits , tomorrow we lift it slightly with a bottle jack where we left out a couple stones in the middle add mud and point

    mantle is 7" x 11 1/2" x 88"

Nothing special...But I installed some ceiling fan control switches in the two spare bedrooms. I got bored the other day during lunch and went to Lowes to buy some switches...

They are the ones with the switch for the light and the slider for fan speed control. No more reaching up to pull the chains. Fortunately, the builder put in 14-3 wiring for the bedrooms for ceiling fans added in the future so wiring the new switches was a cakewalk.

My next project is re-wiring my kitchen light switches. The way the builder wired the 3-way switch is kinda weird. He should have put one switch by the entry door from the garage..instead he put it in the middle of the kitchen next to the fridge. The other switch of the 3-way is in a logical location next to the entryway from the dining room. The switch by the garage entry is for a seperate light circuit in the kitchen for a light that was over the table.

Here's my almost complete budget kitchen, got the look we were going for without breaking the bank. Still need to pick a backsplash for behind the range but I'm having the hardest time finding something that goes well without drawing too much attention.
