I also live in cali and come from a family where 4x4 isn't normal.

Even if you only use it once a year, it will be worth it. Its one of those things that you will be glad you have on a new truck! Plus it will give you more confidence driving off road or even in sand/fire roads. It's just plain nice to have a worth it even if you don't "need" it like some members do for snow ext.

I live in around DC. The only time i have used it for snow is 1 time. For the amount in taxes i pay VA, VDOT takes care of us. But, its still nice to have:D

Did I mention that I called my dealer earlier... they ran a locate on the exact features I want. Turns out there is ONLY 1 exact match within 500 miles of me  They said it is off the boat but not delivered to a dealership yet. They dont know which one its going too, all they know is its within the 500mi search radius. Going in to talk to the fleet department tomorrow. They said I have to put a $300 (refundable) deposit down in order for them to "try" and get the truck delivered to them... Looks like this is my only chance for awhile unless I special order it.

    EDIT: details are...

    2013 (or 2012) TRD Sport
    Magnetic Grey
    Double Cab
    Short Bed
    4x4
    Entune/JBL

the search was only for 2013's, Ill have them check 2012's tomorrow. Anyone know of any differences between 12 and 13??

They added a feature to turn on/off the DRLs in the 2013s and removed the open cubbies from the bed. Nothing major. Won't matter to you since you're getting the Entune, but they also added the 6.1" screen to ALL Tacomas in 2013 as well, just the non-entune ones have less features to them (no apps, HD-radio, or satellite and probably other things as well). Probably a few other little things, nothing big though that i've seen.

Daytime running lights. On my 2012 they just stay on all the time. On the 2013s they're is a setting on the lights for DRL. That's all. I don't really care that mine stay on all the time but there could be times where it would be nice to be able to turn them off if you need to.

4x4 is only worth it if you intend to use it. asking the opinions of a bunch of 4wd owners here only gets biased opinions. I had a 4x4 once and it was a waste to even have, never used it. do your needs/wants require 4x4 ? Are you prepared to pay more initially, extra maintenance, Less Mpg's ?

    Very good point :spy:

Dam I'm so confused now :banghead:

I honestly think it will be a waste of money. I'm just being greedy. Want something I'll NEVER use in socal just cause I can. $4000 is a lot of other mod money like bumpers and lockers... and my leather :anonymous: (I'm excited about that part lol)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
What he said. Being in SoCal you never see snow, but that don't mean you can't run up to the Sierra Nevada's and have some fun up there in winter! Idk how far they are from your location, but having a reliable 4x4 will make you wanna go there and explore. These little Tacomas will surprise you at where they will go and push through. I know I could never be entertained with a 2wd truck, be about as boring as a FWD sedan. But in this region, it's a must have. I wouldn't even be able to leave my driveway in the winter without a 4x4 sometimes.

i’m stock. other than 265/75R16 Nitto terra grapplers. i still get like 18 mixed driving. inherence is a little bit more but not much.(at least thats what state farm told us. i think it was maybe $100 more for 4x4. (idk who you have, but price maybe different in cali) and if you have it you will want to go play in the snow trust me.

So the dealer low balled my trade in so no 2013 for me unless I private sell my truck :/ offered me $19k  I lol'ed in the show room then we got it up to $20 and got $1500 off msrp of the truck. Truck sticker was $31,550 they offered $29,910 which is pretty much invoice. Total financed was $12,802 with TTL and I was hoping for $10 total financed. Looking for minimum $23-24k for my truck. Oh well. Maybe next time.

I like this dealer so much I drive the 30 minutes every single time I need service. There is one 5 minutes away but I cant stand em. My preferred dealer is never a hassle and always gives courtesy repairs and tsbs without giving a hassle. Anytime sometging happens I know they will take care of it. And buying a new car from them is so smooth. No haggling. Its straight up talk no BS. Very rare
