    Hi, first post from a first time Taco buyer. I am moving on from my Ford addiction (they don't make Rangers anymore... ...grrr...) and looking to buy a Taco. These things I know so far:-I am going to have my Taco built the way I want it. Never done this before, but there's something thrilling about having a vehicle built specifically for me. -Double cab, long bed, 4x4, black, navigation, entune.-Do NOT want Limited. Not interested in a chromed-out pimp machine. Probably get some variant of a TRD package. So my questions are:#1 Can I, should I, haggle about the price?#2 If yes, how do I go about that?#3 Do I want the extended warranty?I've already talked to a Toyota dealer (Toyota-Pekin). They told me only Limited was available, and TRD sports wasn't on the 2013. I didn't break my poker face, but that surely seemed like BS to me. Why would they tell me this?

    It's going to be harder to haggle if you want specific things, try looking at a base trd truck then try to get the extras thrown in with it, don't go in saying you want this or that seem unsure if you want a Tacoma because you have always been a ford guy and the only reason you are there is because the rangers are gone, plus make up that you have been looking at left over rangers or some bullshit and you really liked it

    Also if you have a wife or mother that can bake, look for the fat guy salesman and try to pitch in a lemon pie or something i got 400 bucks off for a pie, I got lucky though the sales manager was fat

    The sport package has been replaced with the Limited package, if you want a TRD you will be going offroad/tx pro/baja. Haggle the shit out of the price, pokerface and walk out if they don't work with you.

    This is unconfirmed, you'll want to avoid some of the speculation that people come up with on this site.

    thank you all for the excellent feedback. If I may pose one more question: what about wheels? What's the difference/benefits of the 16" 17" 18" wheel?

    Tire sidewall. You going to offroad? 16" wheels would be better. Lots of people have 17" wheels and still jump off pavement, though, just a little less protection. 18"+ might get flamed on here for no purpose beyond looks.....

    Welcome from N.J. Good luck, I would try to haggle for the 2012. I'm happy with my Sport. Like has been already said, you'll have a better chance getting the '12 cheaper. :wave:

    When I baught my 2012 Tacoma I had it built and ordered.. I was able to get them to come down a little over $3000 from the msrp. It might have helped that I was calling them from Afghanistan but idk.. always a chance to talk em down.

    Not sure why everyone is saying the 13's no longer have Sport. :confused: that's not true. They added the limited package but did not take away sport. Available packages include:
    SR5
    Sport
    Off-Road
    Sport Upgrade (add Entune)
    Off-Road Upgrade (add Entune)
    Limited
    Limited Upgrade

    They are in order by price. Also everyone is saying the 12's are easier to haggle price... also not true. People with car buying experience all know that when dealer needs to make room for a new model year, the old model year goes for cheaper... This is very true, but not the case with the Tacoma.

    Demand for the Tacoma is high and inventory is low, so price is very hard to haggle either way. Even when Toyota offers incentives such as 0 APR it typically does not apply to the Tacoma anyways. "Cost" difference, or markup as we know it, is the same between 12 and 13 and since 99.99% of the features are identical between years, there is no reason for a dealer to give a better dealer on a 12' over a 13' because they are both already worth a lot. The largest "extra" discount you 'might' get is a few hundred at Most!

    With all that being said, its up to you. I decided I didn't care if they found me a 12 or 13, as long as it has the package I want. If you are getting Entune, then it doesn't make a difference between model years. Now if you did NOT get Entune, then you would have a bigger choice to make since the 12 and 13 standard radio is different.

    Now, I spent 5 hours yesterday at my dealer. They didn't have what I wanted so I told them to find it. Only had 1 exact match within 500 miles. They offered to pick it up for me. You would think that with a vehicle as rare as what I wanted, they would not negotiate their price... wrong. Vehicle was:

    2013 TRD Sport (Upgrade with Entune)
    Magnetic Gray
    Double Cab Short Bed
    4x4

    Cost of features are as follows:
    4x4 = ~$3000
    Entune= $2005
    Long Bed= ~ $450

    Using those numbers above you can add them to whichever package and see what you looking at. The truck listed above that I wanted was about $34,500 sticker (or MSRP) I got it easily reduced $1500 within a few minuted and without hassling very much. A good $1500 off sticker brings you down to dealer invoice, which is what you can expect to get. Any more than that and good luck. You can ask your sales guy to see the dealer invoice... once they show you, THaT is the number you should ask for and nothing more or less. It will reduce sticker about $1500 on these trucks. Dealer "cost" ( what the dealer paid Toyota for it) will be ~$3000 less than invoice give or take a grand. This is their profit on these trucks.

    So long story short....

    -Get the one you want and forget the year, Its not going to help your overall price either way.

    -YES! Haggle the price. Insist on dealer invoice (ask to see it... about $1500 below sticker) You might be able to get another $500 off but good luck!

    -Dont settle! Be patient and shop around till someone gives you the deal you want.

    Also note, if you go to Toyota.com and "build" your truck, the price it shows online is identical to the "sticker" price on the vehicle at the lot. So build it online, substrate ~$1500 +/- $500 and that's what you should expect to pay. TTL on a vehicle that price including document and DMV fees plus all the other crap is around $2500.

    If you get extended warranty, ONLY and I repeat ONLY purchase "Toyota Platinum" warranty. It is through Toyota instead of a third party that the dealer often tries to sell. If your dealer doesn't offer it, say no. You can go to another dealer and purchase it separately. Only one worth it is the 5yr/100,000mi (or 125,000) with $0 deductible. There is also a link in this site to a dealer that offers it very cheap. Keep in mind it IS refundable too.

    All of what I just said is FACT. not speculation. I know because I just went through it all yesterday, and have been for the past several days. Good luck with your purchase!!

    well, thanks to all for the awesome advice! I admit I am not a good negotiator, and I REALLY WANT this truck, so I probably did not get a really good price. Anyway, sometime today the dealer is bringing in for me:

    black 2012 doublecab longbed 4 x 4 sports upgrade with nav and entunes. Price is like a little over 33K. Not including tax, title license etc. I am like a kid at Christmas! I can't wait to get the call telling me its ready for pickup!

    You got a good deal. Yesterday I was offered $32,910 for a 2013 double cab short bed sport with entune upgrade in 4x4. So the long bed is about $500 more for you so that's perfect. Its pretty much invoice. You did good. Congrats!
