ABS disable mod for 05+ Tacomas w/o VSC & locking diff write up *pics*

I am having trouble understanding what you did there. What wires are being joined together and/or being run to the switch?

Where did the yellow wire come from?



It may be way too early for me to be looking at this......If you will, please baby me through this.

Ok, looking back at a previous post, we are basically moving the wire from IA4 and IB1 plus a ground wire(that we install) to a switch, correct?

IB1 is the blue wire that you are pointing to in your first picture, but will be green in my truck, correct?

Can you show me where the IA4 slot is? Is this where the yellow wire comes in?

 

Thanks for putting up the detailed instructions and pictures. I've got a 2010 TRD Sport, is this the mod I should be doing? I can't keep track throughout this thread about which is for what kind. I think since I have no rear locker this is it... thanks!

 

The Yellow wire connects to the Green wire and sends the ABS signal through the switch to the Blue wire to turn on the ABS. The white wire bring the ground to the switch to turn off the ABS.

 

Landphil, you should create your own thread as your concept is different from the OP's. Congrats on your working solution. From your description it is a superior method to Rodstone's.

 

The yellow wire and the blue wires are both wires I added. You can use whatever color you want, but I 'll keep calling them by color to try to keep things simple.

The simple way is to cut the light green wire an inch or two back from IB1. Connect your "blue" wire to the short light green wire still in IB1. Connect your "yellow" wire to the loose light green wire, then follow the rest of the instructions with the ground wire and connect your switch as shown.

I complicated things a bit, as I connected my wiring without cutting the light green wire, but the end result is exactly the same. Basically, in the "normal" position, the switch, yellow, and blue wires connect the circuit just like the light green wire always did. When you switch to "ABS disable" it opens the light green / yellow wire coming from the fuse, and grounds the blue / light green wire into IB1.

 

Ok, I'm pretty sure I get it now. Basically, you pulled the green wire and connected it to the yellow wire you added. The yellow wire goes to the switch along with an added ground wire and then your blue wire goes from the switch back to where the green wire was pulled from.

I'll be doing this once I get a switch. I havent decided if I want to put it on the dash in a factory spot, or get a cheap toggle switch and mount it in the space below the AC controls where it will be out of the way. This will more than likely be left in the disabled position, since I absolutely hate ABS on my truck. But I like being able to turn it back on, in case I sell it or somebody else drives it that cant drive themselves.....

Just did this on my sr5 and now I can have abs on and off on the Marty mcfly . I cut the smaller blue wire with yellow tracer, spliced into a switch and done.

 

Does this work with the 4x4's with locker?

 

It should be fine as far as the ABS goes since it sends the same signal to the ABS that the switch in the locker does. I just don't know how the ECU will like the "fake" signal that the locker is engaged. There is a separate thread on here for tacos with lockers, I think Crom started it. I would search for that and check out his method, and check out the wiring diagrams before attempting it with the method I posted above.

By the way, mine has been working flawlessly with one exception. The ABS light has stayed on on two separate occasions until the key is cycled, but both times was when I disabled the ABS ( for no good reason) over 60 KPH. I think its logic is smart enough to know the locker should not still be engaged at that speed. At 50 KPH and slower, it consistantly works fine on the fly, which is fine with me.

 

Should be A-OK for a sport. Your 2010 has VSC, no? If so, my understanding is that will be disabled along with the ABS.

 

Worked fine on my 2010 trd sport and yeah it kills everything which sucks when using in conjunction with yellow wire mod for 4 low. It's still cool though!!

So with that method , you can't turn off the truck , and when you restart it , the ABS stays off ? It doesn't reset till you throw the switch correct ?

 

Hmm not sure if I understand your question??? However if I turn my ABS sw. OFFI'm sure I could cycle ignition as often as I pleased and ABS would remain OFF. And yes I would not get ABS ON until the sw was in ON position regardless of engine running or not.

Does it disable the AUTO LSD ?

 

Yup you can do fishies on gravel without the beeping and braking and I think it defeats the LSD as well. Kinda sucks. In a perfect world I could have ABS OFF and still have LSD ON.

 

Mechanical LSD in the SR5

 

OZ, If you follow LandPhil's instructions it should work just fine for your truck. The presence of VSC should not matter at all.
