06 4x4 help

I am a complete noob when it comes to knowing about truck stuff. So anyways I was out mudding today after it finally rained to have a little fun. I decided to put it in 4 wheel drive to see what my taco could do. So I put it in 4x4 and take off towards this puddle. I hit the puddle and water splashed up over the truck.
I am going a little fast so I tap on the breaks......but I can't push them in. I had to push down pretty hard and it sounded kinda bad when I was pressing them in. Finally they worked fine after the truck slowed down a little more. Am I just an idiot or what is going on??? I then took the truck out of 4x4, tested it out, put in back in, and now everything seems to be going fine. What did I do wrong.

By the way I have an auto transmission

 

probly water in between the breaks i have the same problem when i powerwash my truck or theres a lot of snow it goes away after a couple seconds i dont think its your 4x4 but im not an expert hope this helps

If I had to guess... it's probably because your brakes were wet. Takes more pressure (so to speak) to squeeze down on 'em, get the water off, and effectively work like when they're dry.

 

I agree - probably wet brakes. The noise was probably the antilock system.



Take that with a grain of salt - I'm not a mechanic, nor a Tacoma owner (yet).
