Whoa whoa whoa! Watch the negative talk about MPGness. This is a jolly thread, so be happy you're getting ass-rammed regarding fuel/$/efficiency

Crazy how an access cab 4x4 V6 gets the same as the AC 4cyl 4x4. Friend of mine owns one and she seems to get less MPG than me with the v6. Wonder how Toyota justified that:confused:

Just got back from a 3700 mi round trip on I-70 to Delaware. Averaged 19.0 mpg carrying about 600 lbs of payload. About 98% of the trip was pushing it between 72-84 mph (2500-3100 rpm) in 6th gear and cruise control, AC on 99% of the time and I'm pretty sure 10% ethanol at each fillup.

Not bad. Nice truck. Very comfortable. I'm happy. Plus, to top it off it's a badass offroad vehicle.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
That is crazy, I would have gone V6, but the only manual on the lot was the 4 banger so I settled for it. In a way I am glad I did, power gets me into trouble, I had an old Chevy Monte Carlo before with a big block and since I got the pickup, haven't got any speeding tickets! :D Sure do miss that old boat though, best road car I ever drove.

Next question I got ( thank you to who replied before) , since kind of fuel your putting in does effect the mpgs where do you guys go for fuel ( Sunco, Shell, BP..etc) which company's don't put ethanol in 87 regular ? I read befOre people putting in ultra or premium ..I'm nervous about doing that cause owner manual says put in 87..I don't want to hurt the engine over time I want this truck to last me..on a side note on my last fill up I ended up with 24 mpgs but I put 2 ten dollor fill ups in between a filling it back to the top so I guess that's good..to get as much as I can with gas prices being so high right now.

The station has to post on the pump if it uses ethanol. Sinclair in my town currently sells non ethanol. I always have used 91octain gas, my 06's owner manual calls for the use of 91 for optimum performance.

Putting in 10 dollars of gas in between fillups does not give you better mpg:cool: Stop at gas station, fill up, reset the odometer, drive until you need more gas, fillup and divide the gallons you put in by how many miles you drove.

Best gas is more station-by-station in my experience. The one up the road I would like to fill at because it's so close gives some pinging on both regular & midgrade, and at least a 1 mpg drop across the tank vs other stations in the area. It's worth it to plan a fill in a different town.

I wish I could find ethanol-free in my area. The only station that did went out of business years ago.

$10 fill ups are a no-no for calculating mileage unless you're a good steward and add that fuel amount to your final fill amount before dividing out the tripmeter number.

Not having 4.10s behind that six helps... although something taller than a 0.85:1 6th would help a lot more!

This. It varies with just about every gas station. Sometimes I go to a Town Pump that has ethanol free premium, and others that don't. But ethanol free premium is much easier to find that regular or midgrade. There's only one place I know of near me that has all three. Premium makes a huge difference in mileage with my pickup, I just put regular in it to experiment and am already at a quarter to empty and only mid way through the 200 mile range. Normally I would be close to 400 by now on premium. But with some vehicles, gas octane levels or boosters have no effect on gas mileage, only way to find out is experiment.

I know that 10 dollar of gas doesnt make better MPGs but it buys me more time until it goes empty.i know how do mileage to..acutally have a mileage log in my truck and log of all repairs, and maintence with part numbers..I acutally found out about problem with my control arm bushing from a drop in MPG...im in college so my parents spot my fuel exspense but only 50 dollars a week and i ussally put in 20 of my own..I probally dont need to I just have always had a phobia of getting stranded cause of no gas..I feel like gas gauge drops to drastically doesnt give me a good gauage of how much fuel is really in there...thank you for that site but unfortunatley no one has reported for new jersey lol..i think im going to get mileage app on my iphone record it there to...ive been considering using 89 or 91 but i really am concern about harming the engine since toyota says not to

Luckily where I live, legislation passed years ago that all gas is required to contain at least 10% ethanol. Love corn in the gashole!

I usually get 21 or 22 mpg with each tank with my '10. I have a Hyundai Veloster n/a also and have been getting 37 mpg in it so i drive it more than the truck.

Hooray for saving our fossil fuels by adding 10% ethanol!...and losing 10% mpg!...

Except it takes diesel fuel to fertilize(which is in some cases is petroleum based) the fields. Then more diesel fuel to till and disc the fields. Then more diesel fuel to plant the fields. Then some more spraying. Then it takes diesel fuel to harvest the corn. Then... well you get the idea. It's a political policy based concept of epic failure. There's my rant. Sorry. I'm going to go drive my truck at 16-17 mpg and enjoy being an American at this point in History!:D
