that must be a california thing
here, you can build an AR pistol from a lower as long as it wasn't transferred as a "long gun"

I was wondering the same thing

I think you missread (unless its only some crazy CA BS)
Lowers are neither a pistol or rifle until they are assembled. Therefore you can build it either way you want. build it as a rifle, take it apart then build it as a pistol.

Just to add a little more to this. "carbine" is refering to the gas tube length.

they sell "carbine", "mid length", and "rifle length" gas systems.

Get this one and dont look back

i think in CA, lowers can only be classified as 'long guns' and IRC they can't be made into 'pistol' form even if its a virgin lower
that whole ATF, once a rifle, always a rifle, thing

I was checking that one out before i went to bed last night. I will probably end up with that one. Not sure what i am doing for a handguard/rail system. Still have to look at the different options out there.

I work at a gun store in CA that specializes in Black Rifles. You cannot DROS a pistol frame in CA, only a complete pistol. So if you go I to a dealer, you can only DROS a lower receiver as an 'other' which goes through the long gun form in the DROS system. The 12% excise tax I spoke of is a tax that California charges to reclassify a gun, ie registering a rifle lower as a pistol. They charge an additional 12% tax on whatever you paid to build your pistol.

    California is bullshit.

CA is just a pain in the ass for the gun owners.
Imagine if there was a mass exodus of all the gun owners in that state! It would never happen though so :turtleride: :deadhorse:
