How long can the ruger go without being cleaned and still be reliable?

I usually go through a box of 400 rds in my 10-22 before cleaning it. And then i do a complete brake down cleaning when I have time or it stops cycling. A 10-22 is a bit different from a seized engine but they do need cared for.

Ya I know I get that. All my guns get cleaned after use. I just want a gun that will be able to tolerate dirty conditions the best. Sand dirt mud, all the stuff that gets dragged into a truck and could and up in the gun. I just don't want to have to worry that it wont go bang if I forget to clean it. Hell I just might just buy both :p

I had mine for 10+ years before I broke it down and cleaned it

I got it when I was like 13 and didnt know about breaking down semi autos. All I had ever had was bolt guns and those are easy.

I havent cleaned my 10/22 yet, and I bought it last year. Probably have about 1000 rounds through it. My ruger and my glock are the only guns I dont clean after every use.

I normally only wipe the exterior off with a lightly oiled rag of all my guns after each use. Ive cleaned my XD once.
For the AR's I just add some lube and call it good. Every now and then ill break them down and clean them.

Since you guys were on the topic of .22 pistols, I wanted to get your opinions on a decent first handgun. I'm torn between the Ruger SR 22, MK III or a Walther P22. I've shot the MK III before and liked it well enough but I'm leaning toward the Walther at the moment (SR22 seems like it'll be too small). It'll primarily be a range gun so I wanted something with cheap ammo and fun to shoot. Functionally, any negatives about any of those 3 choices? I know I need to get to the range with each to see which feels the best but as far as ownership and maintenance, are all 3 solid firearms?

I promise I'll show off whatever I end up buying! :D

AWESOME STUFF!!! the stock shoulders so much better than the synthetic remington stock. the LOP is perfect now. i have it one the shortest setting of 12.5" (it's adjustable up to 14.5")

the forend and stock fit great, their finish is great and the balance of the gun just feels better. so does the hand grip position (the magpul stock weighs a bit more)

can't wait to go shoot it... too bad i won't be able to until next week sometime

I ended up getting the bowning buckmark camper.

The ruger MKIII or the 22/45 were a close second.

Ive read that the SR22 has a really long DA trigger pull and I did not want any of that.

I read lots of reviews about the buckmark vs the MkIII and the buckmark usually took the lead by a few comments. The majority of everyone said the Mkiii was a pain to take down to clean.

Thanks! I'll have to check out that Browning pistol. I haven't even seen one of those for sale up here (they might not be MA legal, we have some crazy laws). That's good to hear about the MK III.

I'm a big fan of the MKII. The MKIII is similar, but has a loaded chamber indicator and perhaps a magazine disconnect safety. The Ruger MK series are very well made.

As a lefty, I really wanted to like the P22. It's a fun little gun to shoot, but is built like a toy. Lots of pot metal, and it's accuracy trends more towards "pattern" than "group".

    No experience with the SR22...

Absolutely love my 257 improved, that thing will shoot a dime at 100yrds no problem. That gun has dropped a lot of deer and animals in its time.
