Ok so i have one hell of a story to tell......... So about an hour ago i decided to go to the emissions testing in scottsdale and right when i hit pradase lane road my check engine light comes on...... Like seriously FUCK THAT!! I was only 4 minutes away from the testing location...Any ideas what is causing my CEL to come on? Thanks for the help id appreciate it

 

Take it to auto zone to get free diagnostic? That sucks though, what luck..

It would have had a pending code and failed anyway. It could be something simple like a bad gas cap though

Could be lots of things. Like somebody mentioned, hopefully it is an easy fix like a new gas cap.

It happened on my 2001 Civic too. But unfortunately it was a cracked exhaust manifold. That sucked cause the manifold and cat were one piece, so I had to shell out $1k to fix.

 

You could of bought an aftermarket header for under 150$ and swapped it yourself and a new cat, total cost under 400$ and never have emission issues.

Also, the stock replacement is not expensive.

I wouldn't go back to where you took your civic.. If you need a good HONEST mechanic for Honda's let me know. I have a great guy in gilbert who won't rip you off. My buddy just took his 2002 in for the same thing and paid under 500$ out the door.

EDIT: just saw you are in Cali so guess my Mechanic won't be any help

 

Thx for the hookup, but I no longer have the Civic. I only trust genuine parts though, and the dealer did the work. Yea, I know I definately got ripped off on that deal, but got almost twice what bluebook was when I sold it last year, so it all worked out.
